Should I up-grade to Snow Leopard?

I was just at my MAC class & the guy tells me that Snow Leopard is much faster & i should think about up-grading & that it only cost $30.00, But he also said its not for everybody.
Depends on what you do with your LapTop?

Can any of you guys give me your opinions as why I should or should not?

What do you do is the question?

For ProAudio users I don't recommend upgrading. The reasons for this are twofold, primarily Drivers that are compatible and software that is compatible. Things are getting close on both fronts and some pro-audio users may be able to upgrade without a problem, some may not.

But if you are not in pro-audio the decision is very similar. Check with the manufacturers of your software, does it work in Snow Leopard. Does any specialized hardware you need work in Snow Leopard. If you answer YES to both(And don't use the system guest account) then yes I would say you are safe to upgrade.

I basically just surf the web alot & do Pics & video & now I'm getting into garage band etc...
My most complicated thing is probably soo minor it should be fine.
Lately its editing videos & trying to learn how to mix Garage Band into them..

I'm not a big power user at this point..

Of course who knows what the future holds..

Does it actually make a noticable difference in the systems speed, to make it worth buying?

I think it's very worth it myself. Especially as more applications come out that take advantage of Open CL and Grand Central.

But did you guys notice any increase in system speed?

I know its cheap, But I'm just wondering did you notice any difference or is it worth waiting for the next up-date..?

There are some increases but you won't really notice much. Things are more responsive and whatnot. The big deal is the technology under the hood...Apple's set Snow Leopard up as the foundation for the next few revisions of Mac OS X. Seriously, just do it. There won't be another version of OS X out for at least a year, most likely closer to two.

I just applied 10.6 and it has improved somewhat for me on my old CoreDuo macbook. I agree with Pollisand that if you can upgrade to the latest of mac OS X, do it, Apple always improves and updates based on the current version that your system has. So having the latest OS version can only help.

cheers ...

my opinion is to do the update, the issue with the guest acount has been fixed now, and its a nicer system overall i would say.
