m9750 Strange problem
Ok I inherited a m9750 from a client who didnt want to pay to get it repaired. Most of the time when you turn it on, all the lights on the case come on but NOTHING on the screen, no bios etc. I can hear windows start but again, nothing on the screen. Occasionally it will boot like normal. When it went into windows the first time after the problem I noticed the time was reset. I replaced the motherboard cmos battery . Same problem started after a short time. I reinstalled windows, tested the memory, which came out w/o errors. Same problem.
I also tried to output the video to a monitor when it was in windows but nothing on screen, (I know I was in windows cause I can hear it), nothing happened. It will output to a monitor when I get in to windows normally. It seems to work normally more often I fool around with the main laptop battery. (take it out put it in) try AC only etc. This however may be a coincidence. Anyone experience this? Thanks for any input. |

Taking your fumbling with battery and adapter as some sort of work-around, I would first try also with another battery - OEM preferably - and another OEM adapter and see.
cheers ...

I initially thought of this as well. I tried another power supply today, not OEM, with same result. A OEM PSU and battery will be more difficult to procure in the near future, they seem to be hard to locate. I cannot see why the system time resets with a new cmos battery installed on the motherboard. This should be independent of the AC adapter/ battery.

CMOS battery does run down. Or a bad "new" CMOS (ouch)?
cheers ...

I would unplug that battery and the the power cord and then hit the power button for about 10 seconds to drain the power in the machine... then hook the battery back up and the power cord and then boot up and see what happens...

I disconnected the power, remove battery and disconnected the new cmos battery held down power button for 2 min, waited 1/2 hr, plugged all in. I was able to restart 6 times before the problem started again. I followed the same procedure and I am typing on it right now. Why would this keep happening? I dont have another cmos battery today, but I seriously doubt a bad battery out of the package. Bad cmos? I was wrong btw, it's a 9700i, not a m9750.

Should have mentioned, I tried this many times with no luck, It only works when I disconnect the cmos battery and reconnect. It works for a 5-10 restarts then the same problem.
