ASUS G51J-A1?

So I think its about time to retire my 5 year old Compal CL56 (im surprised it lasted this long, all original parts too).

I'm thinking about the G51J-A1

hmmm saw it on the ASUS website yesterday now its not there anymore.

Well anyways can people give me the good and bad of this one?

Well for a starter it is pretty good price for a powerful machine, could be running a bit warm, but then they all are with gaming machines, and ASUS is a fine brand (one of a few) to own nowadays.

cheers ...

Asus are running a little hotter than people like. Still with in specs. I and others highly recommend getting the IC Diamond thermal compound upgrade.

Here is the 3DMark06 (10007) and temps. I am not sure if this is with ICD, AS5 or stock TC?

The cost is the going price from a reputable retailer. In other words exactly the same at my favorite place. But won't mention as if you found GenTech I have nothing bad to say about them. But do they have T-Shirts?

Buy dot com - $1,399 + free shipping + use Bing Cashback for another 4-7% off. That would be the best price out there ATM.

Oh and no tax for most states. Good luck! :-P

I'd like to know why Asus have two model lines, the G51VX/G51J and the G60VX/G60J, which are 0.4" apart but otherwise identical.

Well apart from the 1080p res of the G51J-A1 vs. std HD (1366x768) of the G60J.

Both C2D/Q or i7 refresh, both 4Gb DDR3-1066, both GTX260M, both dual HDD, both VGA+HDMI, both run quite toasty... etc etc...
