Question about Build Materials

I recently posted in the general form that I was in the market for a new laptop. Since I have started reading about Sager/Clevo laptops I have to say my interest is peaked.

Now for a question that is kind of bothering me. What are the build materials like on the laptop? My past two Sony's have had a brushed metal palm rest. Before that I had two Dells, one of which is made out of cheap plastic.

How are the Sager (Particularly the 8690) laptops built? Is it all plastic and cheap feeling? Is it made out of plastic that may start to crack from temp changes?

Thanks for your time and responses.

I am not sure as how to respond on "cheap plastic", owning a few Clevo and Safer myself. True that they do have some models that would crack as time goes by, but the new systems do improve with better "cheap" materials.

cheers ...

What I mean by cheap plastic is that the Dell Dimension I owned many many years ago snapped at the lcd bezel hinge after 10 days. It was returned and then snapped again at the battery near the heating vent and power plug. It was returned and then the side cracked when the CD Rom (I know I just dated the laptop) was ejected for the first time. That was returned and then I started having issues.

Cheap plastic is the same feeling you get when you run your hand over say a kids toy and then say against stronger plastics like that of a the plastics of a gun.

The last few Clevo in the office survives the cracked hinges for the past 2 years, so I take it that they improve the screen frame design. As far as plastic feel, they "paint" the casing better, so it does not look/feel cheap ... my opinions.

cheers ...

Qhn. Thanks for your replies. I am I just one of those people that once I get burnt I get very hesitant with something. I hopefully after this trip will be buying a Sager though.

Good luck
