Question Enable SPDIF outout: Step by step guide?

Hello!

I have a new Aspire 8935G with Realtek audio (AL889, if I read it well) and I'm not able to use digital output.

I tried using a common stereo jack to RCA cable, using just the left (black) RCA to plug into the digital COAX input of my ampilfier, but nothing came from the speakers.

Do you know how to setup the digital output of the Aspire?

Thanks a lot!!

We have a few threads on Audio/Video out handling here:

Would you want to give it a shot first?

cheers ...

MichelleG has all your base
usually for acers, the spdif out is optical (toslink). For digital out you would get a toslink cable with a 3.5mm headphone jack adapter. then change to digital out under playback devices, that should enable digital out.

Do you mean the jack plug on pc is both electrical AND optical?
The picture you postes does not look too "optical". Is it?

I found something about "shared audio" configuration where I can select an audio resolution (16bit, Hz...) or Dolby Digital 5.1: what is this for?

Tnx

While I am not very familiar with that hardware, what Michelle is referring to is that yes, that 1/8" plug can contain both an electrical analog connection, and a Optical digital connection in the one plug. Macs do this for the past many years with their models, and you need to get a 1/8" optical cable that connects to the standard optical TOSLINK connection on the other end to use it in the way you are describing.

All that said, I will reiterate I am not really familiar with the Acers and couldn't find anything specifically stating one way or the other online in my google search.
