Tip for the new guy? CPU's do not drop in price when newer and better are introduced. The limited controlled supply is responsible. Supply and demand you know? DDR RAM costs more than DDR2? Consider.

Crucial brands its own name with some sort of quality control. RAM pretty much comes out from the same limited sources
![]() If the price is right and the reseller is reliable and offering good after-sales support, then I go for it. Just my opinion. Ram standard quality is very much up to par nowadays that I can do away with brand names like Kingston, Crucial or whatever. But be aware of some really "cheap" offers. Too cheap is not a good sign! ![]() cheers ...

OK Crucial does have enthusiast level DIMM's but does not mean the ones you are looking at are. All will function with in specs. Unless you plan on doing serious OC'ing there is absolutely no performance issues if specs are the same. Your Crucial are CL6 qhns don't say but they are CL6 or better. These at NewEgg are like $10 more for the set than qhn's with a CL5 they will out perform the Crucial you linked for much less. Patriot is as much a known performance RAM company as Crucial if that is your concern, link. |

I was a little confused by those you wrote above, i am not sure i inderstood the whole message, i will explain my mind.
-Firstly, you mentioned about serious overclocking. What's the relation between OC and ram manufacturers or ram GB's upgrade. In some way you can say i have overclocked the pc by replacing the T9400 with a T9900. -Secondly, i confused in the CL6 and CL5 field, did not understood completely which between patriot and crucial perform better (you used the phrase "patriot will out perform crucial for much less). What's so good about crucial that you pay more for them? Is it only the brand or it is really a better product even if you can see the difference with a human mind? Generally my basic concern is best possible performance for my laptop (even if i cannot realise the difference) and best possible quality of construction. My limited knowledge in the high price ram modules is following. Because Crucial modules are in "high" demand and busy buzz within the gaming crowd, it is "expensive". But there is truth to their quality, the name brand just allows them to add a few more $$$
![]() . CAS (Column Access Strobe) Latency aka CL value is the number of memory cycles that elapse between the time a column is requested from an active page and the time that the data is ready to begin bursting across the bus. CAS Latency generally has the largest impact on overall memory performance for applications that depend on memory latency. And applications that depend on memory bandwidth do not care as much about CAS latency. A smaller value of CL does not automatically translate to better ram speed handling as powerpack mentioned above, and a well designed high-CL ram can outperform low-CL ram from times to times. cheers ...

We have one of many threads discussing what's the best ram to use, and where they can be applied. Even though this is in the Gateway Section, regarding some Gateway/eMachines machines, I believe that the discussion applies to all brands/modles notebooks.
