This is only a temporary solution until the correct parts are being made available, as you mentioned, correct?

That's true, but hé, if you are custom to drive a mercedes and you get a Lada in return for a while, you can't get used to it

Think about it as a loaner from the garage until your mercedes is being fixed.

cheers ...

Maconi has a few people on his/her side.
I have a feeling Dell isn't going to get anymore old equipment, and that they will keep delaying people with warranty claims so that these "temporary" (downgraded) replacements become permanent.

I mean, how many months have they said they were getting new cards in now? 5-6? And they are still saying "it will only be a month or two before we get a new shipment of cards."

Ehm, 103000 points 3D03 isn't possible with an 8700m GT.

The test where the 8700m got a score of 103000 was with 3DMark03, whereas the 15245 score was with 3DMark05.

So it's possible.

OP checking in. There's another option --

Some of us were treated like crap and given decent replacements.

I got the M1730 after Dell couldn't fix a M1710 with 950GTX card. So I took a huge jump in bulk/weight and got the M1730, which lasted about a year and a half. Then it failed completely and Dell put me in perma-wait for the 9800. I emailed every contact I had at Dell and emailed a whole lot of the executive group and got the M17x replacement in process.

From the start to the time I got a working M17x was over TWO MONTHS. Absolutely absurd. THEN Dell goes on to blame me for having multiple system replacements -- of their crap that failed.

I still think that, all things considered, my M1710 was the best gaming laptop I've had. Yeah, the M1730 and M17x will out perform it, but they weigh a TON more and are some bulky mofos.

I've been a Dell customer for a long time. Yeah, I've used the warranty when their systems have failed, but I've had 5 systems with extended warranties... never ONCE using CompleteCare, just looking for them to fix what was broken OF THEIR DOING.

Thoroughly disappointing. I can suggest that those waiting keep pushing. I would have gladly accepted a refund, but that wasn't offered. So, I extended the warranty of the M17x. They've got me on their butt for years.

My M1730 was collected yesterday. Now I've just got to wait for the refund to arrive. I think they'll try to credit it back to my card first. I'd like to have it by Monday next, but we'll see.
