Hi All,

I seem to be having a starnge problem with my sager 4750. I recently loaded WinXP Pro (clean install) and the sound is stuttering and the mouse is jerky when browsing the web or really any processer intensive task. Especially when the HD is working.

I checked for IRQ conflicts but XP says everything is fine. I read somewhere that this was a problem awhile back with Alienware PC's with a wireless card. I have a wireless internal card and i tried all sorts of settings. The really strange thing is that when I disable the wireless all the problems go away!

Anyone having these issues? Any thoughts?

I tried that. I even tried downloading the VIA 4 in 1 drivers. I am going to try to reformat and install again. Do you have the Giga-byte card? I must be doing somehting wrong.

I sometimes had this issue while playing mp3's and doing other stuff. The new Bios reduced it, but it never happens when power settings are on "always on" instead of "portable/laptop"

This happens to me in linux and windows whenever I'm listening to mp3's, cd's, or radio. Can't figure out what is causing this. It was happening with the new bios and the old bios that I was using.

I wonder if its your graphics driver. Are you using the most recent omega drivers?

Well I reinstalled XP last night and I installed the latest drivers for everything except the Wireless card. I also did not update to SP2. No problems and everything works good. I have to say that it is almost like the processor is getting high usage when the sound stutters and the mouse is jumpy.

Tonight I will try loading the GLink software and report the results. I am thinking the problems will start. If not then I will update to SP2 and see what happens then.

ok, here is the good news. With no service packs installed and the wireless drivers installed including the G-EzLink utilty all still works fine. No Mouse jumpiness, no sound skipping, and the sound is crystal clear. Before when I had all of the service packs loaded it caused the problems.

Next I will load the service packs and updates. If the problem starts then I need to start looking into what is causing it.

A few interesting things:

- Thanks to someone else on the boards they found updated drivers on realtec's website for the sound and I am using them. The soundman utility looks a bit different and the sound quality is better as well the built in Microphone works now (it didnt work before).

- Also I am realizing that the problem may be that I originally used a version of XP PRO that was new. This version is basically a slipstreamed version of XP Pro including all of the latest service packs. The "Wireless Zero Config" tool is included and installs instantly. I think that the reason only certain people are having this issue is becuase mabey they are using either a Slipsteamed version of windows w/SP2 or they are installing SP2 before loading the drivers for the Wireless Card.

I know this is a long post, but I am hoping we can get to the bottom of this problem that seems to be affecting more and more as I browse the posts. Hopefully it isnt just a plain old SP2 issue that has yet to be acknowledged by MS. We all know how much fun that can be....

I think that did the trick. All seems to be ok. The sound is smooth and the mouse is normal again.

I installed the latest sound drivers link above in prior post. I think that made a HUGE difference. Also I installed all of the system drivers BEFORE upgrading to SP2. Apparently SP2 makes some modifications to the system that doesnt allow it to play nice with the (wireless) drivers/software. At least thats what I think.

I see people have been having skipping video problems with the 4750 as well. I havent seen that issue then again I only have my laptop for a week. I will have to see if this is an issue also.

Hope all of this is of some help to anyone having the same type of issues with thier 4750.
