A Review of Inspiron 9100 with 256 MB MR 9800

Finally, I got my new lappy today.

3,2 Ghz
1 GB RAM
ATI MR 9800 256 MB
60 GB HDD from Hitachi?!
Second battery

At first, I am very impressed of it.
The display has no dead pixels and looks very nice.

Also the fan noise is very quiet. First I heard a lot of things that this notebook is loud like a airplane, but I think it is very quiet for that power. And I have good ears!
The fans are running permanently but quiet, what I like better as fans that are only running every ten minutes but with an annoying noise, like in the Clevo D 470V / Sager 4780 I got before.

I gonna update this revie time to time...
but before this, I have to fit a problem. I ordered a 60 GB /7200 rpm HDD from Hitachi, but finally got a Fujitsu with 80 GB and 5400 rpm.
I think someone at Dell has sleeped while customizing my notebook. Hmpf.

I write more later...

Here is my setup that I just got yesterday.

9100, 3.0E 1mb, 512meg dual channel, 256meg 9800xt(OMEGA DRIVER), 60gig ata100 7200rpm 8mb, SXGA, 8x DVD+R Sony, Internal wireless, uninstalled the crap that dell loaded. Changed the crappy partition to C:15gig, d:45gig

I have played Doom3, Farycry, COH, 3Dmark(01,03,05), Aida, Sandra. without any problems at native res 1600x1280

3DMARK01 = 16605
3DMARK03 = 6580
3DMARK05 = 2704

So, a little update.

I contacted my Dell salesman and he told me that they have upgraded the HDD because the Hitachi wasn´t avalaible.
And they won´t let me wait. They said I could replace it but I don´t do it. Because it is the "better" 80 GB HDD, not this one with 4200 rpm/ 2MB cache, and it costs a bit more than the 60 GB HDD .
Booting goes fast, with AIDA32 I got awesome 5,3 GB reading and 1,95 GB writing benchmarks. As fast as the PC with the Athlon FX 51 they have tested.

Other things

Build quality
Well, it isn´t first class plastic, but it is very solid and not so easy to press in. At all, it´s better quality than this from Sony, Fujitsu Siemens Amilos, Gericom and Acer, equal to this one from Sager and HP consumer, maybe not so good as IBM, but it doesn´t matter.
The keyboard is good to write, I just tiping this text on it.
The touchpad is ok, but the trackpoint "Griffel" in the middle sucks, I have switched it off in the driver.

Sound
With the subwoofer in the smaller battery it sounds good for a notebook. With the big battery the bass isn´t so loud, but it sounds always muuuch better than the Sager 4780.

Benchmarks
I run 3DMark 03 and got choppy 4403 points . I just installed the DNA-drivers based on catalyst 4.10 and will see how it runs now.

Will updated later...

I got some pics in the Dell photo section:
http://notebookforums.com/showthread...559#post506559

Also I run some benchmarks, see my signature for it.
Unfortuately, PCMark wouldn´t give me a overall score, don´t know why, there was standing "system suite must be selected to obtain an PCMark score".
