Question

Ok here is a rather n00b question. The 5690 has a native 800mhz FSB. I have components designed to run 533mhz FSB. Does the bios automatically detect that my components need 533 and adjust or as there specific settings I need to change either in Bios or in the form of jumpers?

Anywho the parts are on the way, should get them on Tuesday. I'll be sure to let you guys know how it goes.

The only two componants that care are the memory and cpu...the 800 mghtz fsb is the maximum and they will work fine at a slower speed. It's about bandwidth...think of it this way

You're on the autobahn....the road doesn't change but instead of driving down it in a Porshe, you'll be driving down it in a Jetta

Hey, I'm back! Finally got around to the upgrade/repair (took awhile since I was goin back to college). The parts fit perfectly, with only one discrepency. The HDD Converter Board in the 5690 uses a slightly different pin sequence to interface with the mainboard. That part doesn't come with the mb. Keep in mind I had to deal directly with Clevo for all my parts because I started off with an Alienware machine. Other than that the system runs fine.

Currently running P4 3.06/533/1024 pc2100 with no problems to speak of.
If anyone is considering a similar endeavor and needs advice, feel free to ask,as I have become very farmiliar with the internals of my laptop.

Though I do have a rather simple question. The Sager 5690 and Clevo D500E are the same machine, correct?
If this is the case, why is the Sager's ram expandable to 2gig, as opposed to the D500E 1gig? Is this a spec misprint? Or is Clevo being conservative?
I'm running the latest 5690 bios from the forums.
Also, the 5690 is not listed as being Prescott compatible, yet the D500E is. What is up with the spec discrepencies between these supposedly identical machines?
Anyone out there know?
