Video editing NOOB!
Okay, first off I'm a NOOB. See my sig for my incoming system. What I would like to do first is some simple home video editing, so I need the software to be user friendly. However my friends are into video editing big time but are "Mac" for life kind of guys using "Final Cut." I would like something that would be comparable for the PC or I'll never hear the end of it. Any suggestions?

I don't known about being comparable to Final Cut, but a company called Ulead makes some pretty decent programs that are good for "simple home video editing." I recommend VideoStudio or DVD Movie Factory.
Good luck, Odie ![]() |

Thanks! How does Ulead compare to Pinnacle Studio 9 and Sony Vegas?

I think if you want to "compete" with final cut you better get adobe premeire pro or avid express-student versions in the 300-400 range

For user-friendliness for a noob with very good feature sets, you can't beat Pinnacle for the price.

I've used Ulead and Pinnacle and didn't like either of them. I also tried the demo version of Adobe Premier which I think was very complicated. The very best video editor I ever used, and the one I use now, is Sony Vegas. It is a high end NLE (non-linear editor), with a lot of features. It's also pretty easy and intuitive to use. It's expensive, like all of the good editors but it's worth it.
Here is some info on it. http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.co...ct.asp?pid=965 Vegas costs $399.95 (discounted through May 31) http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/so...ted=1113828394 Or if you're a student you can get a huge discount by buying the academic version for $189. The academic version is the exact same as the full version. http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.co...micpricing.asp Good luck with whatever you choose.

Adobe Premiere Pro is very similar to Final Cut. For the "Prosumer" market, most people use Premiere or Vegas. Avid is a big player in the Professional area, but I think Avid XPress Pro 5 HD is similarly priced/featured (may have more features) to Premiere and Vegas.
I originally started out using Vegas, but migrated over to Premiere and I'm not sure I can go back. They all have demo versions too! Premiere Pro Vegas Avid Free DV
