Hypersonic-PC is selling the new Area-51m
I just got the latest issue of PC Gamer and noticed the ad for Hypersonic-PC had a laptop that read exactly like the new Area-51m.
I checked out their site www.hypersonic-pc.com and looked at the Aviator NX6. Sure looks and reads like the Area-51m to me. Does anyone know who the ODM for the new Area-51m is?? If Hypersonic is able to get and sell them, hopefully some other resellers will as well... Adam, have you given any thought to carrying the Area-51m if it is available from the ODM? |

I have heard that this laptop is made by ECS:
http://www.ecsusa.com/products/notebookSeries.html However, none of the notebook models listed on the ECS website seem to match. It could be that ECS is not the manufacturer or it could be that this model is offered privately by ECS to PC vendors. |

Pactoo, thanks for the info. I checked out uniwill's site and the N766 is definitely it. Now I'm off to try and find some other resellers of uniwill (hypersonic-pc is overpriced).

I emailed Hypersonic about the NX6 and got a reply from them. They are indeed using the same ODM as Alienware, Uniwill for the NX6. Hypersonic even mentioned that other "big-name" vendors might start using it. As for the 5 week turnaround time, they stated that the Taiwanese manufacturer is having some difficultly filling all orders due to high demand and popularity of the model. I imagine this is why Alienware is having such difficulty filling orders (on top of their typical troubles with orders).

The only problem with the Hypersonix nx6 is that they don't offer the 16.1 screen, only the 15.4 widescreen. I called them and they said they don't have any plans to offer the 16.1 screen. That's kind of funny considering they are showing the NX6 with the larger screen on their website. Too bad! If they had offered the larger screen, I would of bought from them instead of Alienware.

from the uniwill page the system looks as if it's all metal, has anyone ask hypersonic if theirs would be complete metal unlike the AWs?

Hypersonic said alloy chassis which means the LCD lid and a few metal plates covering the HD and Vid card, just like the Area 51m. The rest of the case is plastic. The only notebooks I've seen all metal are the mac's. Powernotebooks.com was advertising an magnesium alloy notebook, the powerbook 3:16 I believe. After reading some posts in their forums, I found out that it's not fully metal either. Only the LCD lid was and some other parts, but most of the notebook was plastic.

Another thing about Hypersonic's dead pixel policy--they only guarantee no dead pixels in the center area of the screen which means if you have a dead pixel towards the ends of the screen, your out of luck. At least Alienware has a zero dead pixel policy which means if you have a dead pixel anywhere on the screen they'll replace it.
As for future video card upgrades, who knows. If future systems end up having new mother boards I don't think that the current generation vid cards would work anyway. That goes for Alienware too. They say you can upgrade video cards in the future but I don't know if you can put any salt on what they say. |

Judging from the pictures people posted in the AW forum, they aren't on the bottom. |
