So..I just got my 9700 in the mail today, with these specs:

Processor: AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML44 2.4GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache
Display: 17" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD with Clearview Technology (I wish I had upgraded to the bigger resolution)
Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz - 2 x 1024MB
Hard Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 120GB 5400 RPM SATA
Optical Drive: 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW
Video/Graphics Card: Dual 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled
Wireless Network Card: Internal Wireless 802.11b/g miniPCI Card
Communications: Integrated 10/1000Mb Gigabit Ethernet & 56K V.92 Modem
Bluetooth: Integrated Bluetooth® Device
Warranty: 2-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support w/ Onsite Service
AlienRespawn: Alienware® Respawn Recovery Kit

It's ran very well, despite a few problems which do not go unnoticed. My main problem is that when I use it anywhere that isn't a flat surface, it seems to overheat and run VERY slow, to the point where typing on AIM will lag, and my fps in games drop drastically. When I put it on a flat surface, such as a desk- it works great.

I tested out Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter with my new SLi enabled laptop, and it worked amazing. Ran smooth and looked great, I was satisified.

My wireless internet seems to be awful, don't know if that's my household's wireless setup or the wireless card, but when plugged directly in- internet works fine.

Touchpad is nice and easy to use, the glossyness of it does get a bit annoying though.

Ports are well placed and easy to access.

That really only leaves my problem with the performance while using it on my lap, as stated above. If anyone knows why it's doing that, help would be appreciated. Any questions you have about this laptop, go ahead and ask and I'll do my best to answer.

THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT PICS
I'm jealous twodee...

About the heat, at this level of hardware, any blockage of the cooling vents in the bottom of the case will cause heat issues. You shouldn't use this notebook on your lap, on carpet or on the bed or it will have heat issues. I always use a little board or tray for my 5500 when I want it on my lap to be sure the vents aren't blocked.

I'll be getting one of these for my m9700, many people around here use lapcool4 platforms for their 7700's...

haha...and someone had Lego blocks.

congrats on the laptop...very cool.
i have not had that problem with heat yet, but i have always used some type of laptop stand when on my lap.

i got this one yesterday

it is a bit small, but fits fine while on your lap. and really helps with heat.

I still dont like this one though... too small and pluging the USB in is a pain. i ordered this one http://sports-imports.stores.yahoo.net/hetenoco.html

Have you monitored your temps? while gaming, im running 62-72C

The thing about the Turion, is it changes temps rather fast, i have seen it raise and drop 8-10C in a matter of seconds, dependent on the CPU load.
I have not had any issues with heat so far. I have mine on a glass-top computer table and never seen any sluggishness or excessive heat.

As far as the wireless, other than not liking the Aerthos (spelling) interface, my connection has worked great.

And yes ... I got pics!! Life, school, work, and small children are all conspiring to keep me from posting my review. Mea culpa!
*pounces on witchdoctor* Pooooost them. Alienware before all things....even breathing! So post before I pass out! *turns blue*
Marker please post how the heat pipe works for you.. I'm thinking about buying the same kind but Iwant to know how it is and how efficient it is.
