HOW TO: Change your POST Bitmap
Ever thought it would look better if you had a custom image displayed when you turn on your laptop instead of the Dell logo? I found a utility from Dell which seems to work on most models, and replaces the default logo with a BMP of your choice. I've bundled the utility with a few splash screens, all you need to do is either follow the instructions to create a bootable USB key or burn the included ISO image and type 'spl2 imagename' at the prompt.

Edit Steve@NBF: Alienware wants to make it clear that not all m15x systems are exhibiting this behavior. However if you are experiencing problems, e-mail them at area51_m15x@alienware.com, and they will give you the download link to the new bios. They will be releasing a new public bios this week, which I will update in this thread.

Jamasters Registry Tweaks
I posted htis over in help & Support but people have PM'd me about tweaks so here it is...

I created .reg file withall the services tweaks and some others in it. all you need to do is save the file to your desktop, double click on it and BLAM, you're tweaked out.

the only set back is its for XP Pro not home. i'll make an xp home one later.

Also, i STRONGLY suggest you back up the registry before you do this. This way if you dont liek the results you can just revert back. to do so:

After re-installing XP Pro and rebuilding my 51M many times due to a duff hard disk I have decided to compile a guide to what you need to do to re-install your drivers and OS from scratch. (if anyone has a better solution to any of the steps in this guide, let me know and I will edit this post).

1. If you download the latest AGP drivers and ATi drivers from AW and write them to CD.

2. Boot up from your OEM Windows XP CD. ...

HOW-TO: Enable AGP 8X w/ ATI
First: Make sure you have the latest ATI drivers which are version 7.95 installed on your AW.

Second: Download this. Those are the drivers for the AGP part of the motherboard in the AW.

Third: Extract the file to a new folder. Open up the file and install the driver. Once the sytem reboots open up the file again and click on the folder AGP>AGPUtil> and click on the AGPutil application.
