How to Identify your Dell system.

When posting a question in this section, we do ask that you post your machine's model. Telling us it's a Dell Latitude/Inspiron/Dimension/Optiplex means nothing to us, but you're close. Saying that you have a Latitude C600/Inspiron 8000/Dimension 4600/Optiplex GX260 is what we're after. There are two ways to quickly identify your system.

Look on the front for desktops, the hingecover for Laptops. This is the model of your system. Do not look on the bottom or backside for a model number as those are again worthless. It's what's on the front that counts.

Now, if you can't read your model number, or if the Laptop doesn't make that clear. Click Here and put in your Service Tag number. Your service tag is a 7 digit alpha-numeric number located on the bottom of your Laptop or on the back of your desktop. Once you click go the next page will tell you your system model.
