Problems Using WPA on M6811

[New M6811 Owner]

I cannot seem to get Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) working on my recently purchased emachines M6811. It seems the Broadcom chipset is not allowing such (???), since the dialog box associated with setting up the device states WEP is allowed but says nothing about WPA. I'm running XP Home Edition with SP-2. Any clues ? By the way, I got very limited assistance from emachines Tech Support.

It is probably just the drivers. I don't know about the m6811, but the m6809 drivers did not have official support for WPA. The HP ones will add support for WPA. Somehow I managed getting WPA working after installing the MS WPA patch with the original drivers on the machine once, but I honestly don't remember how. If you have trouble finding the drivers and want them shoot me an email. I will gladly send them to you if your email can accept an 8MB+ file size.

Thanks very much for your reply. My M6811 has the Broadcom BCM4306/BCM2205 chipset. If the drivers you have are for that chipset please do send them to me at nash_nat@juno.com. Or, if they aren't, can you tell me where to find the driver ? I've already tried Broadcom and they were no help whatsoever. I also tried searching driverguide.com, but they did not have the driver for that particular chipset; lots of other Broadcomm drivers, but not that one. You mentioned HP drivers (as in Hewlitt-Packard ??). What HP drivers would work in this application ? Once again, thanks for any help you can offer.

I got one of them compressed down to 2.98MB. I left the setup.exe in it, but don't use it, just install via "update driver" from within device manager and point ot the driver's location. It should arrive shortly. FWIW, yes, Hewlett Packard . eMachines won't support their notebooks with driver updates, but thankfully the HP notebooks use the same mini-PCI card.

The Compaq r3000 uses the same one. What you have to do is to not use the setup.exe files, but go to device manager and tell windows to use the .inf file directly in update driver...I can give you more info on how to do it if you don't know...

Thanks, but happen the same thing as with previus new driver i have download

First when updating drivers the inf dont say that the driver is for a broadcom 56g MaxPerformance, instead say Broadcom 802.11a/b/g wlan, and if a install this driver, the card dont work

Im currently working with the default driver version 3.3, but want to know if exist a new driver for this card

In regards to it saying a/b/g, there should be a list of more also, including b,g. I used the digitaly signed ones, I don't think the others work with my system...

BTW: These ones support WPA

Mail sent with a 3.40.25.3 driver. These drivers have full support for WPA. They do not identify as "Maxperformance", but work very well and you don't have to "force" them in like with the later ones that simply ID as 802.11a/b/g or the similar. The 3.40.25.3 IDs as "Broadcom 802.11g Network adapter". I had some at one time that still IDed as "Maxperformance", but if I remember right (I don't remember which version) they were a bit unstable on my machine.

With those drivers, my light is on all the time when the adapter is enabled. I can disable it with Fn+F2 and the light goes off. When attepmting to enable again, the wireless light blinks on and off, then stays off and the adapter stays off. The only way I could get it to power back on is to go into device manager in the advanced properties and manually turn the power back on. When on, it was very stable. It was just a pain to get it back on when I needed it back on.

I'm wondering now what the extra options in the driver setup is? Like Adrenaline or something...

likely for the different chipsets. Those particular driver weren't written specifically for the chip on uor cards. I guess the one I chose from the list of available cards was a bit less compatible than the one you chose.

Thanks Thunder for the drivers, but it didnt work either,

First they dont autodetect when i tried to installit, i forced it but i cant enable the radio .

Here someone say he has a M6811 and has the Broadcom BCM4306/BCM2205 chipset

I have the M6809 and have the Broadcom BCM4306/BCM2050 maybe it was a keyboard mistake, or we have diferent cards

I had similar problem with my new Compaq Presario R3306. Once I update the firm as listed below, it worked like a magic.
