The utimate mr9800 pipe unlocking guide

*Before you start it is VERY IMPORTANT to check the week the card was made*

1. Consult the Dell Inspiron 9100/XPS documenation on how to open your computer and remove the graphics card
http://docs.us.dell.com/support/edoc...0/sm/video.htm
2. Remove the 4 screws to take the heatskink off. (you will need a Torx 8 screwdriver)

3. On the core (the big square chip in the middle of the graphics card) there are some numbers and letters that look like 0435AA. 04 means 2004. 35 means 35th week.

If your card was made before the 40th week, you have good chances that the mod will work (but also a possibility you will fry your card). If your card was made after the 40th week the mod will probably not work and you have good chances you will fry your card (two dead cards reported).

NO BIOS FLASHING IS NEEDED
You can install the graphics card drivers again if you want after the mod, but I don't think it is needed.

4. Use a small flat screwdriver and scrape the two right hand dots until they are shiny
5. Join the two right hand dots with a conductive pen.(make sure the two dots are completely covered)
It should look somehing like this

6. Wait about 10 minutes for the conductive paint to harden.
7. Put the heatsink back on and assemble your laptop back together.
8. Wait about 8 hours
9. PRAY!!!
10. Turn on your computer crossing your fingers and run ati tray tools. Go to Hardware>System Information. Check how many pipes it reports.

If you want to remove the conductive paint use 99% pure acetone.(You can buy it from your local chemist)
