it was my understanding that part of the L2 cache shut down hence this "smart cache" marketing crap

im positive both cores are always running, obviously not drawing full power all the time, but still active non the less

**oh, 2 days from getting off my ass and ordering a z62f....so i can finally dump my arima

GenTechPC knows a thing or two
The L2 Chache shuts down at "mode C4" 1.8 watts, the full power mode is called C0, the clock speed and voltage drops depends on the battery power and the temporature, there are C0 (full power), C1, C2 3.4 watts, C3 2.2 watts, C4 1.8 watts(Shuts down L2 Cache).
in C1 mode, one core will temporary shuts down if temperature runs too high, the Dual-Core processors has per-core temperature sensor.

OT: sure, that's the wallpaper of Macross Plus, but personally I like the story of Macross Zero better.

any chance we can get a mini-review of the z62f anytime soon? I'm mostly interested in comments on overall quality, noise, and heat (esp. palm rest heat).

thanks

My boss didn't want me to do the review besides benchmark and photos, because we are the reserller. We like to leave that to end-users of their opinion in built quality, but on what I've tested so far the heat are more related to CPU speed and GPU, a laptop with GPU does runs hot and the fan on the GPU does make some noisy, I can trade that for performance but I don't know about other people. Asus told me they are working on a laptop with GeForce 7800 GTO but they must solve the heat problem first, I told them I'll preffer performance but they said more people will complain about the temperature.

BTW, the built quality of Z62F is at Z91E A6U Z92KM Z91Ac class, their value product line.

You are the boss and it's your money and your opinion counts, not by any resellers or Asus.

yep and since most of you guys don't have a favorable return policy and you can't see them in stores, reviews are necessary for me to part with said money.

My co-worker plays WOW on her 12" Uniwell laptop with integrated Intel 915 Graphincs card runs fine.

the picture quality of WOW on Intel graphics card is more like at Nintendo 64 level.

For gamers, I've heard that the only reason a core duo would help you at all is if you run processes in the background while gaming. Doesn't mean squat to me, since I get 4800 in 3dMark05 with my laptop...
