Here is the deal guys, there is a QP2 patch.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN Since day one when I got my lappy, when I wanted to run QP it would boot to windows then just to QP. I do not have QP2 on a separate partition that I can see, and I always enable myself to be able to see hidden files and folders. This patch fixes that and supposedly a slow down error that occurs after about 20 mins of dvd play. P.S. from what the online tech told me, this is not a fresh install, just a patch.

The link is for QP1.30D. The latest update for that version is actually 1.30DL from December. This is totally different from QP2.0.

Just got my Dv1000t yesterday, and I notice that upon hitting the Quickplay button, it loads the Windows XP screen, then to Quickplay. What the heck is that?

You need the patch I posted, mine did the smae thing. Even with the patch however, you will load windows if your computer is hibernating and not shut down.

It seems QP2.0 is still buggy. I guess I'll keep my QP1.30DL for a while even if the QP2.0 upgrade is available.

Now it make sense that re-installation of OS may kill the QP2.0 function. So the QP2.0 is not, or at least not solely, running on Linux anymore?

What I'm wondering is if the files located in the c:/swsetup will re-install this program. They would have to provide some way to get it back for those that may have used the add/remove option in XP, and then want the program back. It may be a case that those files ONLY re-install quickplay v2.0 to a machine that at one time had 2.0 running on it and has had a fresh OS install being done, the Linux partition containing the bulk of the program not getting deleted during the XP install. I would think the work around if you wanted to transfer the program to another hard drive would be to mirror /ghost the linux partition, then run the installer so it will re-register the program so windows will "see it". BTW: to be on the safe side I'm making a copy of the registry entries and the program files themselves. Anyone tried the above? Last edited by WeAreNotAlone; 04-13-2006 at 11:57 PM. |

You should be aware that HP have now adopted a method to mark your HD (Tattoo) this may involve QP2, it certainly prevents making more than 1 set of recovery disks.
As to reloading the program from swsetup or any other location this might work provided the hidden partition is on the primary HDD although the software does not seem big enough in comparison to the size of the partition.Who knows! give it a go and let us know so we don't break our Qp2

There are people out there that: (A) Are wanting to be able to buy a hd at a decent price. (B) Want to make more than (1) set of discs )... People that have had their house burn down, OR have the wife, girlfriend, or boyfriend throw the stuff out on purpose. (happens ALL the time) (My concern over forcing it to do more than (1) set stems from time to time having a bad burn, bad batch of discs that "appear" to be "alright", but at a later date fail.- will not read properly) (C) Are wanting to do a fresh OS install, and not have some part of an HP program "looking" for that HD "tattoo", not find it, then refuse to work properly.... The program, or programs of course not disclosing the fact that they are refusing to work properly until they "see" the hidden HP marking on the hd you are refering to. I would assume this is what HP does to "key" a OS restore disc to a particular computer... For example... You and I are room mates.... both have the same PC... Mine gets thrown out, damaged.... You have one, but it won't install, since the install disc is "looking" for that hd watermark /tattoo. BTW: Anyone checked on prices of HP stuff? They must think the stuff is made out of solid gold. (really) Check out the Hp PartsSurfer section on HP's site. You won't find much listed here for the dv8000 series for example since it's "new".. but go back a few model numbers and look at the prices for the ram, the hd's! While you're there check out how much a replacement screen is, but be aware that you need to be sitting down, and if you have a medical problem you need to have someone there to drive you to the hospital , call for help once you see the prices. (on the screens, the ram, the hd's) For example for dv1000 14.1-inch WXGA TFT display panel-Only $875.00 100.0GB ATA-100 EIDE hard drive - 4,200 -Only $575.00 1GB, 333MHz, PC2700 DDR-SDRAM Dual In-Line Memory Module (DIMM) Get this... ONLY $1150.00 For a dv4000? Need a hard drive? 100GB Ultra ATA/100 EIDE hard drive - 4,200 -ONLY $ 725.00 Need Ram? Sure, no problem... 1.0GB memory module kit - Contains two 512MB, 333MHz, PC2700 - ONLY $ 1350.00 Need a display for that dv4000? 17.0-inch WXGA ... Only $941.00 BTW: I think you have to pay tax, and shipping on top of the above prices.... * * * * * * PS: On the install program, it could be highly compressed, but more than likey it's a case that when you "delete" the QP "program" thru the add/remove function that it removes the "stub" that lets windows "see" the program on the linux partition. Re-installing just re-installs that "stub". That is assuming someone doesn't delete the partition itself... Same thing for someone who has a HD fail out of warranty... and for some reason choses not to buy a replacement thru hp. QP should be available for download, you should be be able to type in your ownership info, the reason for needing access, then be sent a (1) use link. The installer looking for a valid serial number to enable it to install. Hey... Here's a good deal: Real-time clock (RTC) battery - CR2032 button style operating at 3VDC That's a CR2032 .... Only $29.00 !!!! Compare that to: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search Last edited by WeAreNotAlone; 04-14-2006 at 10:19 PM. |
