I used to use Norton Ghost 9, but I found another program that I think is better, it is Acronis TrueImage 9.1, maybe you you would like to give it a try.

From a chat with HP
While whining about my bluetooth, I asked about Quickplay 2.0... this is from a chat with "abraham"
Abraham: The new notebooks which come with recovery partition comes with Quick Play 2.0 and this quick play update is not available for download as this quick play 2.0 is compatible only with the new notebooks which come with recovery partition. Now, I've never been one to believe what HP says, but since some firmware may be different on the newer notebooks, it seems like it could be half valid. But then why would the latest BIOS flash for the old notebooks support Quickplay 2.0? The latest bios: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...tem=ob-39058-1 (for a DV5040US) |

Anyway, I still have the files in my HDD. I'm just waiting for the QPv2 installer.

Bios update being available means the hardware will support 2.0. That notebooks that shipped with V1 can run 2.0.... If HP will cough up, provide the upgrade. Thing is they aren't going to because they want you to buy a new laptop. It is a bunch of BS that HP will not allow those persons who "own" a 2.0 laptop a download of the full install program, instructions on how to restore a deleted partition for example. Next time you "chat" with a HP technician ask how a deleted QP is restored on a machine that HAS shipped with QP 2.0.... How it is restored if it gets damaged, is deleted by mistake. How those who are wanting to obtain the MAX hard drive space and are wanting to delete the restore partition would gain QP back after they do a fresh install of XP. Along those lines, has anyone deleted the Linux partition that QP v2.0 is on and used the restore feature to get it back? * * * * ** * * Ericko... Have you contacted Cyberlink to see about an upgrade... Or contacted them to pump them for information? I think the "installer" is in the C:Swsetup directory... That "installs" /keys /allows Windows to "see" the data on the Linux partition. If someone where to copy/ghost the Linue partition onto to new hard drive, those files should "re-key" for a lack of a better word the program. The first thing that should be done is for someone to test this theory by copying, ghosting the partition, then deleting the partition QP is on, and the Windows partition.... Then re-copying the QP partition back - Recreating the Windows partition and then doing a FRESH install install of XP.....and then running the installer in the C:\swswetup folder. Yes, I think it is all BS. I was very lucky and received a WinXP CD and a Drivers & Apps DVD with my dv4000. I really hate the damn recovery partitions.
And NO, I haven't contacted Cyberlink since I don't have QPv2. I think I should have it in order to receive some info from them. But maybe someone with QPv2 can help us asking them. Would anyone of you, QPv2 owners, help us and ask Cyberlink? Thanks! Edit: I also received a QuickPlay v1 installation CD. Great!

Eriko,
The BIOS update for QP2.0 support is still available on HP.com at here. The new DV4000 with x700 is called DV4200 series outside the US. HP has removed a bunch of BIOS update for many models from their driver download pages last month. So this is not related to QP2.0 but just another stupid thing on their site. |

Yes, it is the F.12A is the latest BIOS for EC681AV. I have downloaded it when it was on DV4000 CTO's page and it is the same file now on the DV4200 CTO page. By the way, mine us also EC681AV.

I just read the thread about HP recalling the batteries again. And I was thinking, since HP is not offering the x700 anymore and reduced the processor power, I'm just hopping that HP will recall the dv4000 laptops and give us in exchange a dv5000. I know I'm dreaming, but that's how I started with my dv4000, dreaming! This way I would receive QPv2.

Actually, what's the big deal about not having recovery discs? I paid the $10 for the WinXp CD, but then I created the Recovery Discs also that HP suggests to do. So if something ever happens or I upgrade the hard drive, I can always restore it to factory condition (which better include QP2).

It's also nice to have a silk screened, prof printed label.... Makes it easier to find the things if you have allot of discs. On the "if something" ever happens... If your running windows, about once per year is the norm. (YMMV) On the QuickPlay being restored using the restore discs.... That remains to be confirmed.... We ALL need to contact HP and bug them on these issues... For example, I would like to know IF the restore feature indeed "works" when going to a larger drive... Does it "restore" the QuickPlay partition if it is deleted? Partitions are added? I was running Ghost last nite and it's on the 3rd primary partition. I would assume if the order is changed, a partition is added , it's not going to work. Will QuickPlay still work if I SPLIT, and resize the OS partition... splitting it so I can add a partition JUST for data.... Or maybe as I've done in the past having a small partition for the OS, a second one that all the APPS go on, and a third that the DATA goes on. I'd also like to know if there is ANY way to enable the RAID feature of the SATA controller. I was reading the readme of the driver file for it and it mentions raid for desktops, but it being disabled for mobiles.... I would assume this is because most moblies don't have a second hard drive?????? Right now I'm getting all the stuff needed to ghost the drive.... http://radified.com/Articles/laptop.htm Has anyone ghosted the drive and been able to RESTORE it on the dv8000t, dv5000t since they use SATA drives? |

For QP1.x, you have to re-install QP after adding a partition due to a change in Partition number. Not sure if this is the case in QP2.0 as it is not, at least not solely, Linux apps.

Well that's good news... at least the QP v1.0 installer program is smart enough to hunt down the partition again... So How about after you DELETE the partition containing QP v1, can you restore it via the install discs provided, the restore partition.... OR a backup of the partition itself? I'm talking about a total wipe of the HD, not just removing the app via the Windows add/remove function... I'm talking about say some deleting the partition by mistake. (or on purpose) and wanting it back. Forget all that .... anyone used Ghost, etc to backup / delete the partitions and be able to restore them.... on the dv8000(t), the dv5000(t) that use SATA drives? QPv1 does allow us to install QP again even if you deleted the partition.
I tried once to ghost the QPv1 partition to send it to Turkey, but I couldn't do it. There is something called "Crosslinked Partitions", and because of that, I wasn't able to make a ghost image of the QPv1 partition. I guess QPv2 is protected somehow too.
