Our admins take the best and most objective laptop reviews and index them here to create a distinct selection of quality reviews with averaged overall ratings. Many of these reviews have benchmarks attached to them which allows for users to compare their laptop's performance with others, and ultimately enables us to provide a sortable list which at a glance show the fastest laptops amongst a variety of applications (gaming, video editing, web browsing, etc...). Hi,

Theres been some reports that the W3J goes really hot - as in 76 degrees celsius (170F), and that the fan is hot like a hairdryer. Is that the case, and does it therefore also make a lot of noise? Are there otherwise any issues that have come up, now after a months usage? Thanks.

I sent a message to teds asleep on the heat/fan/misc issue, and this is his response:

Hi, I dont actually have the W3J anymore. The 4200rpm hard drive was too slow and causing bottlenecking. But with a faster hard drive it would have been a perfect laptop and I may consider one in the near future. I still thoroughly recommend it.

The heat is a bit of an issue if you are right handed and using a mouse on that side, you definitely feel the heat like there is a mini hairdryer on low warming your hand but all the while I was monitoring the temperature and I dont believe it went into the 60s once. At one point I held my hand in front of the vent while playing an intensive game to see how long I could keep it there and it was fine, it didnt burn. Considering how amazing this laptop is, the heat wasnt an issue for me at all. As far as I could tell, the inside was keeping under 60 because the hot hair was being pumped out of the side.

I cant think of any other points apart from what I wrote in the review - great screen, compact and light, quality build, decent sound.

Bad points being the dvd skipping a little which I more or less solved with a decent dvd player (Theatretek was the best) and of course the slow hard drive which made me sent it back, If they offered me a faster drive I would have taken it in a second but it wasnt available at the time.

Cheers

I don't suppose they make a W3J with a 15.4 screen size?

From the reviews and people comments, this is exactly what I am looking for, if it was only a 15.4 screen size!

Well, actually that would be the W1j. Unfortunately, it's not for sale in the US, primarily because it costs about the same as the W2j (that's why I've heard, at least. I'd love one too!). If you live in Europe or Asia, though...

I was getting bored today, so I did a google on some new W3J reviews. They are starting to pop up these days, in case there are some that have not read everthing there is to read about the W3.

ummm yeah so can you configure this anywhere? or is it one of those Asus' that can't be configured except for the RAM and CPU?

Thanks

the w3j is an ensemble. it's premade and can't be configured, unless you have the reseller do it for you at extra cost.

Can somebody with this notebook check the screen by previewing the Windows XP screensaver and checking to see if the screen is jet black or if there are grains of gray throughout.

does anyone know of places that offer Dell like coupons or anything for this machine? I really REALLY want it but it's just turns out to be too expensive... grrr... there's always the Compal HGL30 but the lack of a hot-swappable optical drive bay is annoying plus I hear the X1600 performs just the much better than the 7600. hmmmm

mmmm ah well. Looks like it's the HGL30 for me. It's just as good I suppose, just doesn't look as cool.

Is now a good time to buy? My laptop now I brought JUSt before Core Duo and the new GPUs came out and don't want to make that mistake again. What's coming and how far away is it?

Thanks
