Anyway, you may try a search on your HDD, maybe there is some executable file in the Recovery Partition that will allow us to run the installation process. Although, QPv1 doesn't install under Win, we need to boot the laptop with the installation CD. So...maybe there's another way to copy QPv2. Maybe using a partition manager you could copy the whole partition (ghost image) and then send it to us.

It is really weird if QPv2 doesn't get available for download, since HP released a Bios Update for dv4000 laptops and that update allow us to use QPv2. Why do I want that update, if they wont allow me to download QPv2???

xtremetoys: Please try to find a way to share QPv2 to us. I'll try to help as much as I can.

The most difficult part is to get the copy, then we can share using:
-FTP
-Torrent
-eMule
-www.yousendit.com (if the file stays under 1GB) Using this webpage, you can upload the file 1 time and send 20 links to 20 different people to allow them to download the file.

Thanks in advance!
Tell me what to do and I'll do it. I don't mind uploading it, my college bandwith kicks ass.

Do you have access to your recovery partition?? Have you run a search for folders and files called 'quickplay'?

Maybe you could find something useful.

Erick

I won't be able to tinker with it anymore, my dvd-rom makes some god awful sounds whenever spinning a disc and I guess I'll be taking this laptop back in the morning

I just ordered a dv8000t so I don't know if this is possible, but if the quickplay can be run while the OS is running, Check your processes, then start the program to find out the extact name of the program.

I for one am interested since I plan on wiping the drive, installing XP Pro with SP2 slipstreamed into it. Interested in hearing from those who have done a CLEAN install of XP PRO, noting which drivers may be needed...

sorry to tell you guys, the quick play 2 is for the new notebooks, i. e if you did have the restore cds for a newer note book say dv8000, or dv9000 series, it would not work be cause it would not detect the newer style quick play button unit, and yes you would have to erease the boot drive, make a 1 GB partion, then the software restore would make the date/os partion and the restore partion., and yes the quick play software is a mini linux install, sorry

I tried to use Paragon's Partition Manager to copy the QuiclPlay partition, but somehow HP got the partitions crosslinked, so partition manager softwares will display an error and wont let us copy the QuickPlay partition.

This happens with QPv1, I don't know if it will be possible to use Paragon's Partition Magic to copy QPv2, could you try?

I didn't see anything in the partition using Partition Magic. If I blow away the harddrive and install a copy of XP Pro I have here, does anyone know IF I'll be able to get ym standard features back, or am I shit out of luck?

Look for a 1024MB primary partition. My QP1.3 is shown as a 204MB Type 88 primary partition. The QP2.0 should be around 1024MB in size.

You should be able to get them all back.

Why don't you try to chat with a HP technician before formating your HDD? Yesterday I did so and the technician did help me.

Maybe you could ask him how to do a backup of QuickPlay v2 and that way you could send me your QP backup.

I don't want this thread to die! Because I really want QPv2.0

A HP technician told me that QPv2.0 wont be available for download and that HP may not even sell it. So, if you want QPv2.0 you need to buy a laptop with it, we wont be able to updgrade from QPv1 to QPv2

I want it! Please! Anyone! Help!
