I got a DV5121TX last week with QP 2.0 part of the program is in a hidden partition 1 gb NTFS on the HDD part of QP also resides in the Program Files folder and a QuickPlay services is run at startup, version 1 only had the partition.

No disks came with my computer HP opting to put a 6 gig FAT partition on my 100 gig drive for recovery, you can create a recovery DVD or 11 recovery cd's

As to how it works, well I really have not tried it yet other than to see you can do DVD's Music and pictures. All need to be on the shared folders.

I have just found out that this version of QP has updates from Cyberlink so it looks like they had a big hand in creating QP 2.0 for HP

Can you make a recovery DVD/CD for QP2.0?
The QP1.x also has a folder in Programs, but it is solely for software update patches. There is no QP1.x function in Windows environment. Nevertheless, the QP2.0 may be different.

Hey guys, I even did the chat thing w/ the HP customer support. The lady that I chatted with said that yes i can play DVDs when laptop is off. She gave me instructions, but it says I have to push a DVD / Audio button when laptop is off.

I'm not by anymeans a n00b w/ computers... but that button is nowhere to be found on the keyboard o_O

All I see is a Power button, Wireless button, and a Vol UP/DOWN/MUTE.
Rest of the buttons are fn keys, and none of which have anything to do with DVD

PS: JL6speed (and anyone else who has purchased a HP product lately with QuickPlay V 2.0 on it)...., You said you have L2000 that shipped with QuickPlay 2.0.... Did you receive a install disc for QuickPlay v 2.0?

Taken from the above link:

To Re-install the QuickPlay software

Use the following steps to re-install the QuickPlay software on your existing hard drive.
Insert the QuickPlay Installation CD-ROM into the drive.
Turn off and then turn on the notebook PC.
When the notebook is restarting the QuickPlay Installation CD-ROM will automatically begin to install the QuickPlay software.Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the QuickPlay installation.

I bought my L2000 from the HP website, and it came with a slip w/ a pic of a CD on it saying that no need for a install CD, all files can be found on the restore drive with the restore feature. And supposidly, we can burn our own restore discs. I have yet to do that.

Quick Play 2.0

Guys,
I've been readin your comments on QP2. I just got my dv1000t, nicely equipped, but... Here we go again. HP has made the whole thing untouchable for us. First of all, I have decided to get rid of the OS/ trial versions-game and stuff I didn't need, by reformatting and installing XP ProSP2. No way to install QP2 afterwords! Tried so many things - 1gb unpartitioned space; 1GB FAT; FAT32; NTFS... nothing. Called HP tech supp, 2nd level. The guy goes back and forth with somebody else only to conclude QP2 is not possible to install, unless...check this one out, " ... you send us back your laptop and we reinstall everything from scratch..". Yes, but that one I can do myself, right? Aparently I underestimated the "geniouses" @ HP, who would not provide ANY constructive solution, as far as soft support. I tell them I own a legit copy of XP Pro SP2 and therre is no reason for me to buy it from then. They respond that in order for QP2 to work, the system must be installed by them, along with the rest of the trial crapp!!! How about that! Nevertheless, I decided to keep my laptop untill dey come up with solution. Something I really doubt to happen. What I want to say is - forget about QP@, if you're installing anything, but their "original" OEM version, along with the trial(unwanted) crap! They made a shallow prommice to think about this problem and eventualy to come up with solution. It is a shame for such a company to have made those weird-a..s decisions. The novice users would really appreciate the newer implementation of the backup/reinstall method. It is really simple and no-brainer. I would say - genious. But for the advanced guys, this is a nightmare! Really. I wasted so much time and almost gave it up on them. The only reason I didn't go with Dell, was their utterly restrictive "promotion" policy! What can you do?! But wasn't it on the HP's slogan, saying something about the "... TOTAL SATISFACTION..."?!
If they keep up with that level of service, they'll definitely loose grownd to Dell and everybody else. Thanks and regards to all

From what I can see it is only the OS based part of the program which is from cyberlink.

Yes you can play and view from system switch off using the included remote or DVD button if you have one! BUT it really does not play without the OS as it loads to the initial windows but does not go to the desktop instead starts QP.

With this version you can also set default folders for audio and pics make playlists have transitions for the pics and slide shows, it will also play cda off a disk and mp3.

As stated before this is a Cyberlink application.

NO you cannot make a recovery just of the QP function and with my computer it will only allow you to make 1 set of recovery disks

You don't need one, in QP hit the info button and then click on the updates or better still read the extensive help file.

I don't have QP v2.0, that's why I want the first two files that were mentioned, not only the update.
