Intel Yonah to be shipped mid 06

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/08...obile_roadmap/

Roadmap Intel's 65nm dual-core Pentium M successor, codenamed 'Yonah', will ship at 1.67, 1.84, 2.0 and 2.17GHz when it debuts early next year, the latest company roadmaps to be made public reveal.

The four dual-core incarnations will be accompanied by just one 2MB L2 single-core version of the part, as Intel had already announced, clocked at 1.67GHz.

That part looks set to follow standard single-core Pentium M nomenclature, shipping as the 756 alongside today's 740, 750, 760,770 and now 780, all of which will continue to be made available through Q1 2006, according to roadmap details posted by Japanese website PCWatch.

The dual-core Yonahs will, like the dual-core Pentium D, take on a new model number series, as yet undetermined - or, at least, not mentioned on the roadmap - with the first four chips set as the x20, x30, x40 and x50.

Q1 2006 will also see the arrival of the x38 and x48, dual-core low-voltage parts, clocked at 1.50 and 1.67GHz, respectively. Come Q3 2006, and Intel will introduce the 1.84GHz x58, alongside the 2.34GHz x60, and the 1.84GHz 766, the latter based on the single-core Yonah.

Stepping back a quarter, in Q2 2006, a 1MB L2 version of the single-core Yonah will take the Celeron M family into the 65nm era with the 420, followed by the 430 and 410 mid-way through Q3. Clock speeds are not known, but it looks like they will supersede the old 3xx series chips at the same time.

Q2 looks likely to see the debut of dual-core ultra-low voltage dual-core Yonahs, at 1.06 and 1.20GHz, along with the single-core ULV Celeron M 423 - again, its clock frequency is not known.

The speeds and feeds of 'Merom', Yonah's successor aren't clear either, but the roadmap suggests a late Q3/early Q4 introduction.

Yonah will bring support for Intel's Virtualisation and Advanced Management technologies to the Centrino platform, not to mention SSE 3 support and a new power management system, dubbed Dynamic Power Co-ordination, which synchronises the two cores' individual Enhanced SpeedStep power-saving technologies. ®

Darn, it's only going to come in the middle of 2006? That sucks.

Anybody want to buy 2 sticks of 256MB RAM?

I read that as "regular" Yonah coming in 1Q 2006, and the ultra-low voltage Yonah coming in Q2. What am I missing?

[edit] According to this roadmap, the dual core Yonahs will be available in 1Q 2006...

BlinKSilver I have no idea where you got that information from, but Yonah is not going to be a quad core CPU.

Also where does it say Yonah will be out mid 2006, when its coming in volume Q1 2006.

Wait, is Merom actually a whole new line of processors, or just another dual core P-M that supports 64-bit technology? I've been hearing both rumors.

Can you provide a link to where it says Merom will be quad core? I haven't heard this rumor before.

from what i know the yonah will be dual core but it will b the next line after that which introduces 64 bit to the mobile family... i remember reading it in an artical as a quote from an intel spokesman.

Here are some more details for the upcoming mobile INTEL platforms.

Intel Pentium-M (Jonah / Yonah) mobile CPU is expected to be released in Q1. Jonah is part of the Napa platform and the successor to Dothan. It is expected to be built on a 65nm process and contain two CPU cores on a single die taking 151.6 million transistors (compared to around 140m in Dothan). Jonah is expected to feature a 667Mhz FSB speed and a 2Mb L2 cache shared between the two cores. In addition to the featureset of Dothan, Jonah will feature an updated SSE instruction set (SSE3 support and SSE/SSE2 support tied to MicroOps Fusion, and throughput improvement in the SSE Decoder) along with improved performance of the x86 FPU. These improvements to the floating point performance of the processor are dubbed "Digital Media Boost" by Intel. Jonah will also feature improvements to power management and thermal output, meaning that the power consumption of Jonah will be similar to that of Dothan, despite the increased core size and complexity. Intel's Advanced Thermal Manager offers finer grained thermal management and Yonah will allow for one core to be slowed down independently of the other if power consumption or heat dissipation rises too much. Jonah will also feature Intel's Vanderpool technology and LaGrande Security technology, but will not contain x64 instruction set support in it's first incarnation.
The initial members of Yonah are expected to be the X20 (1.66Ghz), X30 (1.83Ghz), X40 (2.0Ghz) and X50 (2.16Ghz).

Intel Calistoga chipsets (955XM - this has been scrapped apparantly, 945PM, 945GM and 940GML), part of the Napa platform for Jonah, are expected to be released in Q1. Calistoga chipsets are expected to support a 667Mhz FSB, DDR-2 667 and PCI Express. Calistoga will be paired with ICH7-M, featuring 4xSATA-300 ports, and the Golan wireless chipset, supporting 80211a/b/g and WPA2.

Intel Merom Mobile processor, the successor to Jonah and part of the Santa Rosa platform, is expected to be released in Late 2006. Merom will be built on a 65nm process and is expected to feature a different architecture to previous Banias-based processors, providing a 20-30% performance improvement per clock. Merom is expected to be a dual-core CPU.

Intel Crestine-GM (Crestline?) chipset for Merom is expected to be released in Late 2006. Crestine-GM is part of the Santa Rosa platform and is expected to support an 800Mhz FSB speed, DDRII 800 SDRAM and PCI Express. Crestine is expected to interface to ICH8-M, featuring support for Serial ATA 300, and the Golan2 / Annadel wireless chipset supporting 80211a/b/g and 11n WiMax.
