Of these 3, which one.....?
My wife gave me permission to build my dream game rig which most definately includes SLI and the 7800GTX
![]() Im getting hung up on processors though. Ive been very intensively looking at AMD socket 939 processors, and have rounded it to 3, but cant decide. Which of these would you pick, and why. Money is an issue, but not THE issue, so I guess im trying to say i'd pay a bit more for bigger bang (within reason) Thanks in advance for the help. 1) AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 $812 2) AMD Athlon 64-X2 4800+ (dual core GPU) $787 3) Intel ( I know I know) P4EE 840 $1030 All of these are from newegg.com, and are going to be used for the gaming......nothing else. Im really leaning to AMD for this one, FX-55 in perticular, so any info is greatly appreciated. James EDIT: Updated with prices from newegg, which are cheaper, which means breast implants are now optional ![]()

I have given up trying to have the current best of everything, and now concentrate on how well my games are performing. My FX-53 is working to acceptable levels so, of your choices I would choose the FX-55. One exception, if you do not plan on any upgrades for an entire year, or more, then buy the most you can afford now. I upgrade something every few months, so buying one step back from the "Bleeding Edge" makes sense.

Agree with Yang on teh PSU. Go 850 watt PC Power and Cooling. If you have a window ,get it from FrozenCPU and gave it sleeved with a UV sleeving

Yang isd right on the PSU. On the CPU go with the dual core. The gaming performance is so close it is virtually unnoticable and it is a killer multitasking/threaded app processor to boot.

Slight update, and this is using what I can off my Dell 8400. Total is up to like $2500 so far:
Asus A8N SLI Delux SLI for AMD socket 939 CPU BFG GeForce 7800GTX OC series GPU Corsair XMS RAM (184 pin DDR 400MHz PC3200) Thermalright XP-120 AMD CPU heatsink Panasonic Panaflo CPU fan (120mm) Lian-Li PC-0710B case (black) AMD FX-55 CPU PC Power and Cooling Inc. 850 watt PSU I think that with the 300Gb HDD, NEC DVD RW drive, gigabit ethernet, and 7800GTX's in SLI outta rock. Let me know if I missed anything. Thanks for all the help.

Mobo: Get DFI Lan party UT
I have the ASus mobo in my ALX and I am about ready to put the fer out. I get freeze ups. Remove the sound card, updated bios and drivers. No love. Tested memory. It is ok. New hard drives. No love. Must be mobo (CPU does not get over 42 C on full load). Avoid the ASUS. Hell, the DFI costs a bit less. Also, spend a bit more and liquid cool that with Thermaltake Bigwater SE and a DangerDen 7800 VGA block for the videocard (or two if sli - they have a special SLI version that looks cool).

Im running the ASUS A8N SLI-Premium with a FX57 and sli 7800gtx's. I have had no issues of freezing, locking up or rebooting. Running 2 x 1gb Crucial Ballistix ram. Running a Creative X-FI Fatal1ty sound card in it. On air scoring tad of 14,000 in 3dsmark05. All water ocming soon. Get the premium board if you can, it is rock solid.
