Just got an Acer Ferrari 4005

About 2 weeks ago I purchased a Dell XPS M140 14" notebook and have been enjoying it since. Well last night I got an Acer Ferrari 4005 and all I can say is wow!. This thing is the coolest notebook computer I have ever used, and that includes the 15" Powerbook which is no slouch in it's own right.
Since setting it up last night here are a few preliminary thoughts. First it looks even better in person than it does in any photo I have ever seen of it. You might think the red and black combination could come off as loud and garish but this is one elegant and classy looking notebook, it's simply gorgeous!
The display came without any stuck or dead pixels and it is the nicest notebook display I have seen. My Dell XPS M140 has the shiny TrueBrite display and I thought it was nice until I saw the display on the Ferrari but there is no comparison, the Ferrari display is not the shiny reflective type but it's super bright, sharp and clear. I can't believe how fast this thing boots up, it must take no more than 15-20 seconds to boot into Windows. The fan is always on but it's not an obnoxious fan noise, it's just like a continuous woosh sound and it doesn't bother me at all. I had a Thinkpad T43 and if you think the Ferrari 4005 is noisy you should have heard the T43, it was unbearable.
Since using it last night I have only two complaints, first the mouse buttons are clunky and make a cheap clicking noise when pushed, too bad they don't have the tactile feel and silence of the Thinkpads, even my Dell's mouse buttons feel nicer. Second the default desktop wallpaper gives me a headache it's so busy! I changed it a few times and everytime I rebooted it would reappear. I didn't realize it's a seperate program in it's own right and I disabled it in msconfig and now it's fine. Thats the extent of my complaints, not bad huh?! Now I just have to call Dell and return my M140, I just hope I don't have to pay a restocking fee.
