How is your m90 doing? And what were reasons for getting this instead of the m1710?

I have had my M90 for about a month now and am completely satisfied with it. I didn't go with the 1710 for a few reasons. One, my interest is not in gaming but rather video editing and photoshop. Two, the 1710 screams "steal me" while the M90 is smooth, possibly even understated. I like that, riding below the radar. With that said, i have gamed around a bit on it just to see what it can do. I must say, I have been blown away. I am a sports fan so I picked up NBA LIve 2006. It looks amazing and runs smoother then Ray allen's three point stroke. I haven't really tested some of the more recent technologically advanced games but I did download the demo of FEAR and played it Maxed out everything without any hiccups. Here is a basic overview of my M90 after about a month of use:

Screen: I love the screen. I have never worked on anything like it and I was hesitant at such a high resolution at first. I have no problems with it, no dead pixels, and although I am not schooled in LCD screan lingo(leakage,glare...all that stuff) I love the screen. It blows away the screen that I have on my old Thinkpad R51. There truly is no comparison.

Keyboard: I can only compare the keyboard to the only other laptop I have owned which is a Thinkpad. The response of the M90 keyboard is amazing and there is nothing that I have found to be awkward with it.

Battery Life: It's been hooked up to the AC almost all of the time although i have carried around the house and have done regular internet browsing. I was able to surf for a little over 3 hours before it was below 10% charge. For a machine with this kind of power, I am more than happy with the battery life. If someone was interested in 10 plus hours of battery, they shouldn't be looking at a system like this in the first place. It is not its function to be a battery saver, although it does an admirable job in trying to play the part.

Wireless: I have a wireless router in my home and have had no trouble receiving the wireless signal anywhere on my property. The signal has always been full stregth...very impressive.

Performance: This bad boy smokes. I have been encoding a dvd and playing NBA LIVE 2006 at the same time with absolutely no slow down whatsoever. I assume that the core duo has something to do with this and I am glad to have it. I have had both photoshop and premiere open just to mess around and both run seamlessly at the same time. I definitely don't need this much power but I am glad to have it!

Build Quality & Size: I'll be honest, i thought it was going to be much larger then it really was. It is not at all inconvenient to transfer here and there, although it definitely isnt ultraportable. The build quality gives me peace of mind. i feel like I have a sturdy piece of hardware before me and the solid construction helps me to trust in the longevity of this bad boy.

Overall: I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I am glad to have settled down with a laptop that can hold its own. There will always be something new and improved on the horizon, this is the nature of technology. But it is a horrible mental strain to play the waiting game with technology and can easily pull the mind into obsession. I am glad that i have a computer that I know can do everything I need and then some.

Does your screen seem to suffer from any sparkles or grain? Have you ever connected it to a projector? How's the sound output? Any hiss?

I do a lot of banquet presentations and am currently using a Latitude D600 which works okay mostly. Some of the multi-media presentations push the video of the D600 to the limit and as such I've been looking for something with a bit more horsepower. I normally have the laptop connected to a NEC LT380 1024x768 projector.

I had been considering a D620 but I've been reading quite a few posts where users are complaining about the screens and hiss.

It looks like the M90 shares a lot with the Inspiron M1710. So is the M90 simply an Inspiron that has the ability to connect to a D/Port Port Replicator?

Both the m90 and m1710 have the dock slot underneath. They perform the same, but the 2500m is geared more towards cad/ 3d modeling although it games just as well. The big thing for me was the professional appearance of the m90 over the bling of the m1710. Mine works great with the d-dock.

I just bought a Precision M90 as well. Got a deal from Dell, and it doesn't have as nice of specs as what you guys are getting, but I only paid 2 grand as well. Here it is:
