new Xps M1710 Faulty Hard Drive - Ideas!!

Hi, well i posted last friday saying that my hard drive was very loud starting up, the hard drive was clicking etc. it didn't do this the first time it started up, yet has done everytime afterwards. wasn't happy with the noise so complained to dell. Did all diagnostics, and then noise disappered, so he said see how it goes over the weekend and then he'd check up on it.
Still made the noise on saturday, so rung dell up said it was still doing it and wanted a new hard drive. after about 20 mins they agreed and then said it would be with me on tuesday.

along comes monday, various calls from dell keeping me updated so i was happy with the service i was getting etc. (6 calls in total just to say it had dispatched).

Along comes tuesday - no delivery - ring them up and they say its down to the courier and its def gone out. they said they'd contact courier and they never got back to me so i dealt with it and found out it was still in milton keynes, would def be with me by wednesday.

get a call later from courier saying morning or evening delivery so i say morning and take it off work.

get a phone call from another courier service on wed morn to say that my hard drive out of stock and will be around couple of weeks and i was thinking wtf? didnt think much of it as i knew this other hard drive would arrive today

guess what, it didnt! many more phone calls and eventually they say they haven't recieved it yet from dell.

so confused, so said id had enough to dell and was going to send the laptop back and they can refund me. they said the supervisor would ring me in an hour - he didnt. i rung him. he (very helpful) looked into it and said would ring me back later this afternoon.

it appears that the hard drive is on order from holland - arrives with them on friday and i get it on monday. ive made sure they ring me everyday to keep me updated and they've given me a goodwill gesture of one of their top end printers.

anyone else had any similar problems or got any views on the hassle ive been through just to get a new hard drive? am i entitled to a refund if it came faulty?

i am happy with the helpful people at dell, just annoying that they cant just give me a straight answer and say from the start it was out of stock.

Cheers,

Tim

I have seen this before sadly enough, it seems that Dell dosent like to tell you anything until they know that they cannot get it to you. The problem with this is that they are screwing some customers over with false hope. So if it makes you feel any better, its happened to others. I wish you good luck with getting your HD

my drive failed after 1 day of use. it was like yours, making a lot of noise. it took 2 weeks to get a replacement. I was on the verge of returning mine also.

the brand wont matter, Dell has a ton of different suppliers. the reps wont guarantee a specific brand, so long as it's the same size and speed of what you ordered, you're fine.
