M1210 Screen Horizontal Ripples

I received mine today and I observed that with the brightness set at 4 or below the screen generates constant horizontal ripples that look like fast and stead heartbeats surging from the bottom of the screen.

Has anyone seen this problem? (I re-seated the LCD cable under the keyboard but that didn't fix it).

I've got the same problem. I also have random blinking that happens at all brightness levels. I've got a new one on the way from Dell I just fear that I'm gonna be stick in the middle of a bad batch.

Mine just arrived today so it could be a bad batch as I don't see other people reporting it.

You need to lower the brightness to see the ripples/flickering. I have a tech coming over to replace it. Can't believe how many laptops I had to fix or return from Dell. I was hoping this one was going to be easier but...

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:

The problem described above is due to the driver shipped with the laptops last week. I was skeptical about that when the tech told me that he wanted to dial in to change the driver but it worked. The original driver was not generating a 60hz frquency properly.

The driver he installed is the R126007.

To be honest I don't by the drive explination. My replacement arrived today. It's 100% fine in ripple and no flickering. I swapped the hard drives to see if it could be a driver issue and the screen is still fine. New one is an LCD instead of an SEC.

Strange. After he updated the driver the rippling definitely went away. As far as the flashes, I thought I just saw it again but as you know they are pretty sneaky. Did you figure out a way to test to see if the bright flashes are gone?

Did they ship you the LCD with or without the casing?

Well, here are the facts for me. With the new driver the screen does not have the ripples any more but the bright flashes were happening AT MY OFFICE (with both battery and pugged in) but it is NOT HAPPENING AT HOME.

Here is the theory ~will see if it stands- I have a big belkin power brick seatting right on my desk in the office. Do you have anything similar where the bright flashes happened to you?

On a separate note I realized that the NVIDIA card only supports 16 bits with the 1600x1050 res of my external monitor and 32 bits only up to 1440x900. The GMA950 on my e1405 supported the native 1600x105 at 32 bits. Just an observation...
