Help with my Aspire 3623 please!!!
Hello everyone this is my first post in these forums and I'm hopeingyou guys can help me out with a problems I'm haveing with my Aspire 3623.
I bought this laptop back in April and have had no poblems with it until now. Heres the deal Last month a sun shaped candle holder dropped from my wall about 2 feet over my laptop and landed on the keyboard, it didn't appear to cause any damage at the time and I just counted my blessings and cursed myself for putting a candle holder in such a stupid place. However since then my computer will not kick over to DC when I remove the AC jack. The battery shows 97% charged with 9 minutes left to fully charge but that reading never changes. When I remove my AC jack instead of getting the notification beep it just goes black and then I can't power up unless I'm jacked in with AC. There are moments where I can pull the jack and get the beep and run on battery but only for about 10/15 minutes and then my computer drops dead and won't power up unless I plug th AC back in. I contacted Acer and they sent me another battery, which I got today, I charged it up, pulled the AC and *blip* dead again! So its not the battery and I'm wondering if the candle holder hitting my keyboard might have damaged something underneath. I noticed my (9) key was slightly popped out from the impact and when I look at that area on the schematic I see the nine key is relatively over the battery/AC connection. I consulted my local computer repair shop and the guy thought the accident and the power issue were coinsidental but I'm beginning to think there related now that I've tried a new battery with the same results. I plan on calling Acer tomorrow and seeing if theres a repair depot in my area but I just wanted to ask around the forums for some imput about this problem. Thanks in advance and sorry about the long post but too much info is better than too little right? Swichra00 |

Well, as you said please.
Hi Swhich, So let me get this right, because I've had a hard day at work. Your lappo works fine from the mains, but won't run on battery. We know that the new battery is good, right? If this is the case then there is a possibility that your 'sun shaped candle holder' thingy may have damaged the connection to the battery. If all worked well before this collision then it does seem likely that this is the cause of the problem. I don't think you have any choice but to call Acer support, but you may not be happy with what they tell you. I don't think I can offer any more advice other than, Good luck... |

Thanks for the reply,I kind of have a feeling that the issue might be because of the candle holder. Yes I am a numba** sometimes. But I couldn't say that the candle holder did it for sure because it had been a while since I ran off just the battery. For a while it had been plugged in and set up on my other desk opposite my tower system. I used it whenever I was running anything heavy on the tower for other tasks. I ran Linux off my tower and windows of the laptop. Anyway I'm sending my computer off to a depot for repairs tomorrow, I've set a date to have FedEx pick it up. As far as I can see its covered by the warrenty and shouldn't be a problem unless I'm missing something here. I think it might just be a matter of fixing the connection between the battery and the AC or mainboard and if I could get into the laptop I might even be able to do that myself. I don't want to check though because cracking the case open would void my warrenty.
Anyway thanks again for the replies and I'll keep you posted on the results of my endeavor Grats Swhih |

Hey Swhich,
Don’t beat yourself up over it. Five years ago I was sitting on the sofa learning a new application on my NEC. Reached over to pick up my freshly made cup of coffee, put the cup to my lips and wondered why the coffee wasn’t going in my mouth. The answer lay in the fact that fate had chosen that moment for the ceramic handle on my cup to suffer a catastrophic failure. I must have looked a right twonk sitting there holding the handle, while the rest of the cup, coffee and all, drained conveniently into my keyboard. Luckily, once I had put my jaw back in my mouth, I managed to turn the lappo upside-down fast enough so it didn’t do too much damage. The machine was only 18 months old and cost me over £1000. Out of warranty, I resorted to a bit of DIY repair work. Apart from the fact that yanking the keyboard out had damaged a couple of keys, I managed to clear the rest of the coffee away from the HD and other internal components. I still use it to this day. The moral of this story is, ‘if you must have liquid near your laptop, make sure you have some plastic sheeting to cover the keyboard with while you’re drinking it!!!’ Hope this makes you feel better. Good luck with the repair. If at 004 is looking in, you can remove that triple post by clicking on Edit under the post and look at the options. I have never been so agreed with!!! |
