Dell profits surge on PC, printer sales

Dell profits surge on PC, printer sales

By BLOOMBERG NEWS SERVICE

Dell Inc., the world's largest personal-computer maker, said third-quarter profit rose 25 percent, driven by demand for PCs and printers during the back-to- school season. Net income increased to $846 million, or 33 cents a share, from $677 million, or 26 cents, a year earlier, the Texas-based company said. Sales rose to $12.5 billion from $10.6 billion, matching a forecast made by Dell in August. Chief Executive Kevin Rollins said last week he's 12 months ahead of schedule on a five-year plan to reach $60 billion in annual sales by 2007.

It looks like all of the coupons benefitted everyone.

$60B by 2007....are they out of their minds....how in the world do they expect to accomplish that??? I mean I could buy like $30B, but $60B is a pretty far reach.

Dell exceeded $30b in revenue a couple of years ago. They are on track for $48b in calendar 2004. If they grow at the same rate they have the last few years, they'll hit 60b next year without much trouble.

Dell's fiscal year ends at the end of January, so the '2007' they refer to is 2/06 - 1/07. They're on track to hit 60b 2/05 - 1/06.

Dell has been above $30b since 2000. They sell a -lot- of computers, needless to say.
