Review - Premuim Backpack XL for 7700 (w/photos)

I am by no means a writer, so I will use several photos to help you decide about the AW Premium Backpack XL for your Area 51M 7700.

First - Like the 7700 it is BIG. Very big. For people who like to travel light, believe me, you can bring your 7700, all your attachments and a change of clothes. No more standing in baggage claim, just pack it in here. The exterior of the pack is a Nylon mesh. The stitching is tight and stress points (Cover flap, Shoulder straps, Base of pack) are reinforced. The out of the pack has three zippered Pockets, one large one in front and 2 small side pockets. No despite my best effort , I couldn't get the power supply in one of the side pockets.

First set of photos has my old Targus (which is also a fine pack) pack and the free AW bag that comes with your 7700.

Moving to the interior, lifting the top flap, there is a long flat pocket (if you look, you can just make out the zipper.) I use this for the mouse pad, but what ever you put in there this spot will keep it handy. Unzipping the front pouch reveals a deep full width pocket and two smaller mesh pockets along the back. These also run the depth of the bag. The front is thinly padded but when add to the second panels padding should be more than necessary to protect your 7700 from bumps and bangs.

Moving in you unzip the main compartments pocket (as I said, it is thinly padded) you can see a small flap pocket at the top. One nice feature of this pack is you can access this pocket via a small zipper at the top of the pack. The pocket is made of a durable cloth covered bubble wrap (hard to explain but it not bubble wrap, just bumpy like that). The pocket is probable about 11" deep and the bubbly protects line the entire interior of the pocket. The base of the pocket sits about 2" above the bottom of the pack that uses a stiff plastic as the full length back support. At the top of the pocket there is an elastic strap to keep your Alien from flying away. Here you can see my attempt to cram the 7700 in the targus. Not pretty. You can also see the XL provides enough extra space at the top to keep your wireless card in. Nice!

Here are some top down views of the pockets Front and Main

Last but not least the Back. Like all packs the back is made of a breathable pad. The center padding strip is less padded than the side or bottom. The sides and bottom are little more than 1/2" thick of stiff foam. All of this supported by a stiffen plastic. Again, the plastic extends about 2" past the base of the Main Compartments system pocket.

Well that does it. I think the bag indispensable. Also, I ordered my bag via AW Customer Service (Thanks Joe!) and once again they came through with flying colors. They also cut the price, using the web site gear area would have cost me $121.00 (Tax & S&H) but using my Agent ID # with AW Customer Service, saved me a lot!

Yes the 7700 comes with a standard messenger type bag. othing special and not worthy enough to put the laptop in hoinestly. Once you see the bag you'll be scared to put the laptop in it. Must upgrade to a better bag for sure.

Thanks for the review. I have an old backpack that fitted my old 15" so I might upgrade to the AW bag
