Also I should add to my comment about my GPU temperatures - I have a notebook cooler running underneath and I use the I8kfangui that everyone here uses.

It's made by Targus. That's about all I know about it. Picked it up from Fry's Electronics when my laptop came in. Not the best performance wise, but it's silent and gets the job done nicely. It's silver so it matches the paint nicely.

I also highly don't recommend it, if we're talking about the same thing. It's about $29.99 USD, has 2 black fans on it, and is very cheap plastic. The thing is a total joke, and I've had mine replaced at Best Buy TWICE already. The fans, after not very long start WHINING like crazy. Nasty, nasty, cheap crap.

nice!

my buddy just bought the XPS desktop:
dual core p4 3ghz
1gig ram
2x sata raid 0
6800 nvidia

his stock 3dmark05 scores were 3782!! I overclocked it and he got 5108! I was shocked at how my xps2 runs circles around it w/ 5800+ 3dmark05 scores at a low overclock.

these laptops rock!

So your okay there I think otherwise give a call to support and have them change it like I did, but of course I was running hooot.
i used to have this video type thing. i cant find it, could you put up a link?

sry for a double post but can someone plz help me install that fangui program? i tried to install it and i kept getting errors.

EDIT: ok well nvm i found the program and the rthdribl video. my temps seem to be kinda hot after running that video for about 30 minutes. the GPU hit 85C and the CPU hit 54C.im using the stock drivers from dell (77.24). im going install the 77.72's i had before and see if there is a temperature difference.

using dell driver too...mine idling around high 30's...after few hours of BF2, it went to high 50's...came back down to 30's after a few mins.

Are you sure that isn't the CPU temperature? That seems a tad low for the GPU.

Yeah I check it occasionaly during heavy game play out of curiosity mostly. Never seen mine go above 60.

Sweet.... Eve-Online IS a pretty nice looking game, even if I say so based on my Geforce 2 TI 64MB's peformance, lol (DX7 4tw!)

I use headphones and sometimes default speakers with my regular on board sound. I didn't feel like shelling out $100 for an SB Audigy. The sound is still phenomenal. I use Bose surround headphones so my opinion could seem skewed to someone who uses a default pair of headphones. I'm kinda glad I didn't spend the money on the SB - this sounds excellent on its own.
Ok, cool. That's good news. I think I might get the AKG K-66 analog open-ear headphones when my i9300 arrives, then. I hope that I won't be able to hear any hissing, though, because they are just 32 ohm impedance headphones. What impedance are your Bose surround sound headphones at, and do you hear any hissing? And how are they "surround sound" if the i9300 just has one stereo audio jack? Btw, here is my new Help me choose headphones+mic for my i9300! thead.

I only here hissing when my computer is booting up, but I think that's because Windows is still loading up all the drivers and hasn't retrieved the sound drivers yet. Other than this, I should say I don't -notice- any hissing, but it sounds remarkable on the headphones.

Not sure what the specs are on it. Surround sound meaning it replicates a surround sound system by positioning sound in certain directions depending on where they are in the movie / during gameplay - sounds pretty rich.

You're using RivaTuner to do that, right? Off the top of my head, I believe that's the only program that will show you your gpu temps as I8kfangui and CHC only show you your CPU and HD temps.

Nope - I8kfangui is showing my GPU temps fine. It lists CPU, DIMM, HD, and GPU.

Teaches you not to buy a laptop with a P4 in it. Hell, they thermal throttle themselves because they get too hot.
Prescott P4 in a laptop = Very stupid

I must be at around 80 °c stock at BF 2, i'm running at 1440x1050 (can't get it to x900), maybe the resolution could change the temperatures but that's only a wild guess.

BTW Stellus, if you still have that desktop, let's trade my new XPS against that beast.
Am I the only one who can see the GPU temps only using RivaTuner?

Oh, ok. I think that could be because your system is initializing your onboard sound, and maybe turning it on, so you could hear noise coming from that when it's doing that. As for specs... what are your Bose headphones called, again? Are they the Bose Triports or just "Bose Surround Sound" headphones? I can try googling them for the specs and impedance rating.

I just received mine today! And it really does kick @$$. The screen's beautiful (a little brighter would be nice but that's getting picky). I also got lucky and have zero dead pixels and almost no light leakage. Downloading 3DMark 05 right now to get a "first boot" score then I'm going to wipe it to remove all this dell crap and restart clean...although I might have to slip a game test or two in before I do that. Only slight negatives I've seen so far: craaaaaaaaappy touchpad (hard to move across all that pixel real estate), and the speakers are pretty bad (but I'm used to my desktop w/ Klipsch 2.1s so I'm might be biased)
