canadian uni student looking for gaming laptop

Thread Starter
Will be going to university in Ontario, Canada, and am looking for a laptop with a budget of C$2400 or US$1800.

If I buy a notebook from the US, how much tax will be placed on my laptop when it is shipped across?

Am looking for a laptop that fits the following:

•Using it for gaming and media- needs to have a good graphics card that is preferrably replaceable.
•Not looking for an ultraportable but I don’t want it too large either. Will be carrying it between classes so the lighter the better. Screen size anything between 14.1” and 15.4”. not bothered about the glossy thing.
•Would prefer a laptop with good battery life- at least 3 hours.
•Needs a large, fast hard drive- at least 60gb, 5400rpm.
•Needs dual layer dvd writer drive
•Would prefer a laptop with a subwoofer but this isn’t essential.

I have been considering:
Asus z70v, z71v, w6v
Dell Inspiron 6000, 9300

9300 would be too big for you
i recommend the z70v, w3v from asus..
in my opinion even the z71v mite be a little big to move around.. the z70v is a little bit lighter.. but i would probally want something smaller such as the w3v

If you decide on the Z71 then buying in Canada is not too bad. Asus brand pc's are not that much difference price wise than there US counterparts. Buying natively gets you a pretty good warranty. For an idea of pricing you can check out http://www.canadasys.com/laptopasus.htm ...if you pick up a copy of HUB magazine there is a place that is in First Markham place that is even cheaper than Canadasys for Asus.
