Just got a r4000, got some q's

Hey dudes, I just ordered a Compaq r4000 from OD. Came alittle more expensive than I thought it would be, but here's what i got:

Athalon64 3200
ati xpress 200m
60 gig 5400 rpm hd
256 RAM (plan to buy a gig stick, would this work?
bluetooth wireless card
DVD burner
Bright screen
Win xp pro

Anyways, I'm planning to play to play HL2. How would it perform in this system? Also, which are the graphics drivers I need to download from ATI's site? The intergrated ones?
Also, the DVD burner is double layer correct?
And most importantly, WHEN WILL IT COME IN!!??
thx in advance!

You want the integrated graphics drivers the 200m is an IGP.
(Integrated Graphics Processor)

As for HL2 the ATI 200m is not great for 3D gaming but I have heard that if you keep it at low setting you can play it just make sure you have enough ram to keep both your GPU and Windows happy.

I am pretty sure that the DvD burner is double layer but you should check HPs specs to be sure.

ATI & HP offer a set for the 200M for your system... However i like using www.omegadrivers.net for all my ATI cards because those drivers are optimised for gaming.... You should get a fair frame rate... My video card is much older a 9000 IGP and i get over 50fps with low settings and the 200M is much newer and more powerful so you should be able to use some good detail settings...

If i remember correctly that system has a Dual layer option so you would need to check the HP specs to make sure...

Hey Tech I tried the URL and it didnt work.

Try back later... the site goes down for a few hours once in awhile... seams like just before he puts out new updates for a card... Those drivers are very popular so...

Alright dudes, i got another q.
Is there a way i can get my 10 gigs or so of music i have on my current computer onto my lap top before i get it?
I thought of cd's, but my library has gotten to point where it would be inefficient and extremely annoying. Gotta thx bt for that... Anyways is there a better way to transfer those files?
No, there is no way to get files on the other system before you get it.

You will need to have the laptop to copy files to it.

Do you have a DvD burner? You could at least get alot more of your data on one DvD that way.

Other wise if you had access to a large unix shell acount somewhere you couold copy them there until you got you new system then just copy them back to the new one.

Get a crossover CAT5 cable from your local office/computer store & setup a little network between the systems and then use windows shares to move them...

thx, can you point me in the right direction on how to go about setting up a line network?
Like Tech said you will need to get a crossover network cable. Most stores will know what that is and it should be cheap.

Then you will need to make sure one of your computers have file sharing running in your network properties and both have TCPIP going with IP adresses in the same range.

Then you need to make one of your folders shared by right clicking and going to properties.

Once the cable is connected to both and they are setup for sharing you should see the folder in your network places.

that should do it.

well i already got a cross over cable for xbox live, a 100 ft one at that.
Do i have to use a cable, or can it be done wirelessly? (i got a wireless router)
And what do you mean with have TCPIP going with IP adresses in the same range?
thx for the help guys

If you have a wireless router its bound to have a hard port as well so you can just set up your router to create a VPN in your house then the router can give out the IP address's rather then using statics. You'll still need to set up a shared folder though.

ughhh, i don't know wtf a vpn is...
is a site you can direct me to that explains this more clearly plz?
Sorry, a VPN is a virtual private network. Its basicly when you setup the router to send ip addresses to all the machines using it.

You should read your wireless router manual that should get you on the road to a mini home network.

also dude, when i do get the 1 gig stick of PC3200, could i just add that to the 256mb stick that will come with it? I don't think it wil be PC3200, maybe PC2700.
Will this hinder performance? Or should I just discard the slower 256mb stick?
dual channel memory doesnt work on this but still I prefer to have two identical sticks.

ddr400 Ram(pc 3200) is a better choice than the 2700 anyday

so would it be better to have 1 gig PC2700 + 256 PC2700 or just 1 gig PC3200 and discard the 256mb, leaving room for maybe a later gig PC3200 stick?
