Just got a r4000, got some q's - Page 2

keep the 256mb until you dont get another stick. you can use this ram for grahics. But I believe if you have both memory sticks in slot (1 gig and 256mb ) then your memory will run at 333mhz and not 400mhz.

Do the omaga drivers work with the 200m even if it is intergrated? Has someone tried them with this card?

Im not sure... But they should work with all ATI cards... No reason they wouldnt... if they dont work then we will know...

dedicated is the word dude. Dont be a noob. xpress 200m is a dedicated gpu. and yes omega drivers run on them. I have used them before.

well i was searching around and in some posts ppl are saying that the 200m is and intergrated card with less-than-stellar performance.
You say you've used those drivers before, is there a reason you don't use them currently?

Oh, and one more thing. I read that the 200m supposedly leaves the PCI-E slot opened, does this mean we can add a nicer GPU in the future?
Cuz that would be the shit...

There are some people who dont own a R4000 or have no information about it. It is actually a graphics card already present on the chipset but is dedicated and not integrated.
The performance is not mind blowing but enough for you to play your games on medium settings for the next 3-4 years. That's the life of a notebook today.
yes the notebook has the options of both upgrading to a dual core cpu and more powerful gpu options that are under developement(not yet released). The main reason why I got this notebook.

I am not using omega drivers anymore as they increase the speed of the gpu and decrease the battery life.I am an occasional gamer so I dont need omegas. I just used them to test them out.

Only if the correct cards are released...

I had almost decided on the acer aspire 1804 or dell inspiron 9300(xps2 was out of reach). Just then I mailed ati about this card by chance and they said they will be releasing the cards for the same in the near future.

YES!!!

wait.... does the mobo even have a PCI-slot available?

i found these:
http://www.coboc.com/diy/Config.asp?Section=50202
are they compatible?
cant say for those as it mentions only for 9880. But they maybe compatible. we cannot know until some1 tries it out.

i don't think this has been answered, is there acutally an available PCI-E slot on the mobo?

From what I understand...The actual slot isn't PCI-E but the interface is.
I've done some research and I've gathered that the slot is for an ExpressCard/54... Which is sort of like PCMIA/II but bigger like a PC card and can use either USB2.0 or PCI-E for an interface...

As of right now none of this technology has actually been released but is under development.

I am currently awaiting the shipment of my R4000...so I haven't been able to validate if the slot is actually for an ExpressCard, but when I get it I will.

Now, I have a question about Memory type. Does the R4000 support DDR-SDRAM or SO-DIMM? I've seen a few sites refer to SO-DIMM but mostly SDRAM...I just want some actual proof from someone that actually has gone through the trouble of physically upgrading their laptop's RAM.

I'm hoping DDR-SDRAM for I have purchased 2 gig's of Corsair XMS it would be a waste if otherwise.

I was told that the GPU occupies the PCIE slot and IS removeable..Not sure if thats true or not.
