i just ordered panther for the student price of $69. so what you might say. hold your grass little hopper i say, i am not a student. there appears to be no verification setup, nor even a "false" front door barrier of entry like required entry of student id. just select any school anywhere in the country...and the world...err apple...is your oyster....at a student price.

Any particular reason for getting Panther instead of Tiger?

haha yeah your whole process is pointless if u don't get tiger. panther should just be $69 as a regular price and keep tiger @ 129

This is what we like to call "fraud."

yeah, anybody could order at student prices, but I bet they do check sometimes to so you may take the additional risk.
they do check...if you buy multiple laptops or ipods. I think every "student" can purchase only 1 laptop at student prices per year. They do this so people can't purchase laptops with the discount in bulk and then sell them for profit...and it does seem that panther is even available for normal purchase, and it being old seems that 69 should be about right.

well if you lie to get financial advantage it's fraud im afraid, but dont worry, i wont tell

well, theoretically you could say that everyone is a student of something since no one can achieve complete knowledge. like me for instance, i'm a student of the techniques in procrastination.
lol, well first you would have to check if there's a school on the list that does that subject!

but then again, im sort of a student, studing for a professional qualification... I should have checked it out myself before ordering

I've posted this a few times before already-

When I purchased my mini, I did so over the phone. All they asked was the school I go/ went to, and that was that. Easy enough. No i.d. or anything.

I don't think they really check unless you buy a few things.

I don't think they really care much at all. I recently got my powerbook for a student price and I graduated college life over a year ago. Same thing with a friend of mine who bought an iMac over the phone, they asked her if she was a student, she told them her boyfriend went to community college. That was it, no more verification and she saved some money.
