I installed Doom 3 on the desktop and turned all the settings to max... with all the AA and whatever crap there is. It lagged. I turned some of those settings off and it was fine (the graphics still look good to me). I haven't tried this on the laptop though.
I also installed Sims 2 on the desktop and noticed that when switching floors, it would need a half a second or so to load (noticeable). I tried this on my laptop (which came with 512 MB RAM) and saw similar results, but as soon as I upgraded to 1.25 GB RAM, the laptop will switch floors instantaneously.
I now use my laptop for gaming. Not that it's any better... just that I'll be leaving for University with it, so I dont' want to have to reinstall everything.
