iBook tweaks

Hey all.. since I ordered a brand-spanking-new iBook, I wanted to know what tweaks/configs and "haxie"s you guys and gals suggest to a newbie like me. I've been looking at "nosleep" and "sleepless" so I can torrent things overnight...

Oh and is there a feature to have the screensaver to be set as a black screen.. in case I don't want to install nosleep or sleepless? From what I can read, the heat may damage the screen or soemthing like that. Basically any way to make the iBook be as "turned off" as possible as I'll have the iBook near my bed while I sleep :P

um, why don't u just leave it open, not risk cooking your components, and just set the LCD to turn off after a minute of inactivity?

your keyboard is one of the pathways for your notebook to cool itself and expel heat. closing the lid on it and keeping it running is NOT recommended, particularly w/ iBooks.

Ah, didn't know if you had the option to do that... mind you i don't even have the ibook yet to mess around with. :P

Yeah if you have the ibook next to your face while you're sleeping, you wouldnt want it in sleep mode or you'll be put off by the pulsating white light by the latch button!

So if I leave it on (lid open) with a screen saver (lcd monitor off as screen saver) should be my best bet.. Now are the keyboards illuminated? if so.. can they be turned off?

illuminated keyboards are only on the 15" and 17" powerbook models i'm afraid, but with white ibook keys i dont think you will havve much trouble, the light from the screen makes them pretty easy to see in the dark
