Should I make this purchase or wait? (MS-1029) - Page 3

Ok, initial benchmark results at stock core clock of 351 and stock memory clock of 297:

3DMark2001: 14590
3DMark2003: 5503
3DMark2005: 2122

Overclocking results still pending. (I've applied Artic Silver to the GPU heatsink for what it's worth)...

I'm re-running all of the above as I realized that the CPU was only running at 800MHz during benchmarks...it is now at 1.8 as it should be for the purposes of these tests.

To address some questions I've heard (not necessarily here), Sisoft Sandra reports that the memory is running at 400MHz, so true support of DDR 3200 vs simply compatibility with DDR 3200 but running at DDR 2700 seems to be accurate.

I should point out that my above post suggests that the MS-1029 eclipses the Ferrari 400 in terms of memory bandwidth.

Thanks Unleaded, makes me happy about my choice of laptop. Keep posting any other information.

Well, I think I've demonstrated that CPU clock had absolutely no impact on 3DMark scores, the above scores stand. Overclocking in progress.

What are your components? CPU, Memory, HD, etc, and what operating system and drivers are you using? Does the Omega drivers work on this notebook?
Turion MT-32, Samsung 80GB 5400RPM HD, 256MB DDR 400, Windows XP Pro SP2 and stock drivers.
OK, that's it for me tonight...I've taken it to 400 core clock and 345 memory clock with no tearing or artifacts and arrived at a 3DMark2001 score of 15717. I believe it has more headroom but I'm beat!

I'll have more tomorrow and probably by tomorrow night a complete review.

Why do you only have 256MB DDR 400? Do you know if the Does the Omega drivers work on this notebook?
Why do I have 256MB RAM? Cuz that's how much I have for this test...I don't believe it impacts the benchmarks I am performing anyway.

I have not toyed with Omega Drivers and don't believe I will use them for the purposes of my review.

Ill post some info when the notebook gets in. It should be here on thursday and is the same specs as unleaded but the memory amout with a 1 gig so dimm PC3200 plus the 256 meg PC3200 its coming with. It will have Win XP Pro for OS.

Unleaded, how's the screen? any Dead Pixels? When you brought the laptop did come w/ any cd? (No OS But any other) By any chance can you do some test w/ the laptop on battery and on AC? (Sorry for being an ass but I really want to know lol) Whats the Average battery life?
Battery run down tests will be performed tonight. Only CD that came with the system was a driver/utility/manual CD.

No pixel defects and the screen is gorgeous. Very bright and vibrant, owing in part to the glossy screen I'd imagine.

Is the Norton Internet Security a trial version? Or are all the utilities full/OEM versions?
I didn't actually check Norton...but the others are full versions. I'll check after I complete the battery rundown.

2 Hours and 10 minutes before it went into standby. I actually think this is a decent result as I tested by looping a DVD. A constantly spinning optical drive will draw a good amount of power. I'm recharging now and will test it for web surfing/light use and see how it fairs.
Yes I think playing a DVD basicly tests the powerdraw of the optical drive and screen more than anything else.
