Multiple problems, but past warranty... am I screwed?

I bought an 8790 back in June or July of 2004. A few weeks ago, I started noticing some artifacting in my games, although 2D stuff was fine. I used ATI Tray Tools to underclock the card. In addition, I opened it up and cleaned out dust and stuff that had accumulated in the system. That worked for a few days, but then the artifacting reappeared and was much worse than before. Again, 2D desktop browsing and such was fine, but whenever I booted up a game, it just went to hell.

I was considering my options regarding this until yesterday, when another problem occurred. Two days ago, my display was fine, but yesterday morning when I booted it up, the backlight was out. I mean, if you looked REALLY close, you could see that it was displaying an image, but with no backlight, the system is unusable.

All the problems seemed to occur right after the warranty expired, which I find ironic and somewhat suspicious. Do I have any options with Sager regarding the repair of this system, or am I just up a creek without a paddle?

Also, if Sager is unwilling to help regarding this matter, how much would it cost to get the system repaired by a third-party? Would it just be better to buy a new system? Definitely not Sager the second time around.

Thanks!

I don't want to sound harsh, companies spend loads of money to see how long things will last under normal usage. They then decide how long to warrant their products. If the system components will live say a year and a half you get a one year. It just depends. Here's an idea. Most credit card companies will extend the manufactuers warranty by a year/doubled. As long as you did not purchase an extended warranty. I'd check the card paperwork. Call up sager and see what they would do for you. They have been known to allow a grace period on the warranty. Good luck.

Well, I fixed the screen. The little switch that is pressed when the screen is closed was broken somehow, so I took a paperclip and manually flicked it to turn on the light. However, the video card is still screwed up, as is the headphone jack. Sooo, I'm looking at options for that. When I talked to them, they said that a problem with the video could involve replacing the entire motherboard, which would cost, like, $500 or something, which is just ridiculous.
