Hello,

Now that a good number of us have had the ferrari 4005 for over a month, I think it may be a good idea to post your comments and thoughts of your ferrari after a month + of use for those considering the ferrari.

Well then, Go ahead. I'm getting mine tomorrow, so I'm not quite ready for the 1 Month+ club yet.

Same here...expecting the call this afternoon to pick mine up.

Only gripe is the poor tactile feel of the keys. Fan always on dosen't bother me, it is after all a high performance computer.
But the keyboard officially blows, and I have replaced the keyboard 3x.

Muds -

What do you mean. I thought the keyboard was great. Everyone has raved about it. How have you replaced it 3 times already? Acer replaced it under warranty for poor tactile feel, because it "blows"? What was the specific defect?

everything is great. the fan can be bothersome in a quiet room...I didn't realize this until I turned my ceiling fan off. The keyboard is great. The keys don't make annoying clicking sounds when pressed, and the rubber feels great on the wrists/palms of your hand. For some reason winupdate causes my ferrari to run at full power when I don't want it to causing it to get too hot when idle. For this reason I am going to restore my comp to factory settings. I honestly have not even touched the mouse, I should give it a try.

Hey guys,
It is so difficult to explain the keys. Like going to the dealer and explaining a noise your car makes.

All of my keys in the area of the Tab, Cap locks, Shift, Q, A, Z, S, X, D,W make a very bad pop sound when depressed, and all the keys click or crack if your fingertip hits the front or back edge of the key. What disturbs me is that at Comp USA they have a $650 Acer and I have seen it in several stores and the keyboard embarrases the Ferrari keyboard in shear terms of quality feeling, unfortunately it is not a curved keyboard.
Acer will send you a replacement keyboard no problem, but take it from me everyone is identical. One of the replacements I never even installed because the spacebar was stuck in the down position. Ah yes...China at it's best!
Anyway I hope this helped answer some questions.
Thanks

My machine is a great overall piece-of-art, beautifull, great graphics, solid, nice screen, no bugs what-so-ever, however the mouse is worthless to me and that machine REALLY needs a 7.2krpm HD. That will certainly improve it's preformance. Nevertheless, I like it very much and recommend to anyone.

well the ferarri 4005 is my first laptop and i love it
the only complaint i have is the slot load dvd is kinda loud when it takes a cd in.....other than that i havent had any problems with it

I agree with alf-hc.
The Ferrari 4005 is my first laptop too. I am extremely happy with it except for teh DVD-RAM drive.
It is very loud and it is unable to be made region-free.

The design is nice. I have no problems with the keyboard - but... The sound hardware sucks! The output/input (minijacks) are in the front of the computer, annoying when using headphones and the hardware itself is in the really low end (low quality). The DVD-drive is not the most silent around and the fan is always running. Overall, though, the Ferrari is a really nice piece of machinery.
One last problem though - not really Ferrari related - Acer is not the best solution for people who wants a "maintenance free solution". Both IBM and ASUS (and probably many more) have their own driver update program - just a click away and your computer is updated... So simple and yet so far away.

AC adapter prob... I think it's the adapter, I'm not getting power from it sometimes. Or I get power but it cuts out then comes back.. every few seconds for a few minutes then.. cuts out completely.

I have had mine for 2 moinths now and I love it. I travel quit a bit so my 4005 allows me to play on the road. Purely prefrence but I very much disliked the mouse that came with the machine. Purchased a razor diamondback and that more than solved that problem.

Ferrari is my 5th? 6th? laptop over 10+ years. Definitely my favourite thus far in terms of power, build and style. I had bought an hp zv5400 not more than 6months ago and sold it to buy the ferrari!

Actually you can region-free it. Not sure where I found it, possible in these forums search around. But theres a link to a site with a firmware update that removes the region-protection. Its a Matshita.

Hy you Ferrari Lovers

This Ferrari 4000 is actually my second notebook (my last was a Compaq Presario 1800) and it definitely blew my mind. It has everything I wanted and it's still mobile.
At first I wasnt sure to buy an Acer but after reading in this forum for 2 month I decided to buy my baby in July.
And what I have now, is a notebook which will still turn heads, play all my favorite games and makes it really easy to work with. SuSe 10 is running for 2 weeks now too...

And if you dont play FPS you dont even mind the Ferrari Mouse. Only thing in my mind is the Fan, which wont turn off. But the noise didnt bother me so far...

My last notebook made me happy for 4 years. I think this will do it for 8

Aside from the Mouse (which is back in the box in the basement), i love it. Had the F4005 for about a month now and its been perfect.

Would like to get a 7200rpm drive one day, but i also want at least 100gig's. Also would like 2 gigs of memory, but i want it to be Cas2 and have the BIOS run it at 200Mhz.

does anyone know if they are going to release any updates so you can control fan speed, i like to leave my laptop on for the night but with this p4 laptop the noise is unbearable
