Notebook locks

Thread Starter
I understand most of these are theft deterrent (if they really want it, the cable aren't that thick), but I have heard some are better than others (worse I have heard some are very easy to pick the locks)

Any recommendations on a good notebook lock?

I use the Defcon 1. It is a cable with combination lock and alarm. If the cable is cut, the alarm sounds.

abba: Network Computing (http://www.nwc.com/1320/1320f45.html) says "It took us about 3 seconds to disable this device, and a total of 20 seconds to break and remove the lock and walk away with the laptop." Apparently simply dunking the alarm in a cup of water is enough to disable it.

ACDC: there are tons of threads both here and at notebook review discussing locks, mostly rehashing the same things. Here's an active one over at notebookreview: http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...4&page=1&pp=10

Nothing will deter a determined thief except vigilance on the owners part, the next step is to make the stolen goods virtually worthless by marking the equipment and placing disk locks on the harddrive making them unusable.
