I use a Hauppauge USB2 PVR with my laptop and Titan TV for scheduling.

It depends on what you are trying to do. If you just want PVR, TIVO (or one of its alternatives) will be cheaper. Depending on your TV service you might be able to add a TIVO onto your bill for 5.00 - 10.00 pe rmonth.

With HTPC you have no monthly bill, but there is a higher cost of ownership. But with the HTPC, you can do lots more.

HTPC. MythTV with FC3 works great. Output through Hauppauge PVR-350 is excellent (for non-HDTV) to my 27" TV. Just expect to work for it.

Good luck.

Just different naming ... Digital Video Recorder, Personal Video Recorder.
