244 Cooling/Vent question

I'm having issues with my Sentia 244 overheating and shutting down on me. I've noticed that there is a black rubbery patch over the vent holes several of the grills on the bottom and side of the system. Even the main grill directly over the fan is covered by this patch stuff. Is this supposed to be there, or is is something that somebody forgot to remove during assembly? Any body else notice this?

Thanks!

I'd recommend calling support, and if you have a digital camera photograph it and try to ask if you can email them the pictures.

I guess what I'd like to know is if this is standard on everyone else's Sentias or not. I haven't found any good pics of the underside of the Sentia online to see if the grill is blocked or not. Any other Sentia owner care to flip their baby over and let me know?

Thanks!

well....

The standard purpose of a grill and vent is to provide air...so I'd say you're pretty safe in taking them off.....considering they're suffocating your system...Likely some assembly guy wasn't paying attention and forgot to takem 'em off. They're probably to prevent breaking during assembly? But yeah...a covered fan and vents are a definite NO-NO

I got an email back from Alienware support stating that nothing should be obstructing the vents. Uhh huh. So I'm going to take off the bottom panel over the fan (looks like an impeller actually) and remove the patches from the grills. My only concern is that those were there promote suction action to draw in air from other parts of the lappy case. However since the thing is overheating anyway I'd say it isnt' working that well . I would still be curious as to whether these patches (black electrical-tape type stuff) blocking the bottom vents is standard on anyone elses Sentia 244.

Wow Jazzy, you brought this one back from the old threads. :-)

The Sentia 244 draws air into the vents just above the F1 key, then exit to the back vent next to the left LCD hinge.
