IBM T Series 14"/15" screen big difference in color

Hi
I went to a local store in mid town manhattan today and took some comparison of the t43 14"/15" models. the first thing that caught my attention was the color displayed on both screen. the 14" has a SXGA and the 15" has a UXGA. compared to the 15" UXGA, the color on the 14" seems washed out. the white displayed on the 14" screen was slightly yellow, red was actually rose red (dark red) and the vertical viewing angle was much much smaller than the 15". i am very disappointed to see the result from this 14" panel cause it basically has the same color presentation as a t21 which my cousin had it for 3-4 years. A review from notebookreview.com stated the same problem. If any of you guys are using a current 14" SXGA model please let me know if you have a similar situation like this.

You cannot compare 15" SXGA+ and UXGA to 14.1" screen. they are different technology.

15" SXGA+ and UXGA are FlexView screen with much better brightness/contrast but more response time and consume more power.

I did find the Flexview to have more contrast. I did not find it to have more brightness. It is a much slower screen technology (IPS).

a review of the 14.1" SXGA+ T43 at laptoplogic.com said the screen compared favorably to the 15" SXGA+ T42. now I'm confused because it sounds like that isn't necessarily the case.

andrew - when you say more contrast, does that mean the text was easier to read?

No, just more contrast (difference) between white and black. Actually, just blacker blacks. I don't remember the text being easier to read.

Overall, I just like the 14.1" SXGA+ models way more than the 15" models. For something that is just a bit larger and a bit heavier, the 15" just feels "klutzy" compared to the 14.1". Feels much heavier and larger than it actually is.

I just don't like the Flexview screen.
You would have to see one to know what I mean.

If you have enough room on a credit card, order the 14.1" and 15" models that you would want to have, and return your least favorite within 30 days. Of course, you can always decide to keep both!

My guess is that you would pick the 14.1" within a few minutes of use of both. A HUGE MAJORITY of people do!

That's why the 14.1" T Series Thinkpads are (by far) the most popular models that IBM/Lenovo sell. The 14.1" Thinkpads are the "flagship" models for the Thinkpad line, and are FAR more popular to businesses and business people than the 15" models.

The 14.1" splits the difference between a desktop replacement and an ultraportable. It is the compromise of weight and size.
It is the TRUE thin-and-light.

I remember reading that IPS technology actually displays the full gamut of 16 million colors, whereas the technology used on the 14" screen (standard LCD) does not. I'm running a dual-LCD setup and this appears to be true - some images that appear pure gray on the external LCD are actually beige-ish on the t42 flexview, while another image that appears on the external to be the same shade of gray shows up as a slightly different hue on the flexview. A third shade of gray, easily recognizable as pure gray on the flexview, of course is indistinguishable from the other two shades on the external.

Maybe I just need a better external LCD

screen help

I have the T42 14.1 and I am very disapointed with the brightness and color contrast. I was considering investigating whether or not I could get a better screen at this point. Any suggestions?

thanks

it's interesting you say that. whenever I visit laptoplogic.com with my T42 Flexview, the areas on either side look beige, while on other machines the borders look grey.
