A notebook backpack for the XPS2 that wont make me look like I'm going camping - Page 4

Kensington Contour

I just got the Kensington Contour backpack for my XPS from my local retailer. Dell is backordered on them, so I cancelled that order. Anyway, my first thoughts are the following:

1. Is a bit large. With everyone complaining about the large size of the Dell XPS backpack which is supposed to be bigger than the Contour, the XPS backpack must be a monster of a bag! I'm not a big guy by any means (5'4"), so this is relative.
2. Very good quality and construction.
3. XPS fits nice and snug, and does not protrude anywhere along corners.
4. Lots of extra space for power brick and whatever else.
5. Flimsy little loop handle on very top. I saw one of these bags on the shelf that this handle was completely detached from. For the kind of construction that the rest of the bag appeared to have, this loop handle just doesn't fit.
6. It's still a bit large for my taste.

I got the '03 in walnut. The room didn't have great lighting, so it all looked black. The walnut is quite dark, but not nearly as dark as it appears in the pics. Check out booq's site for a more accurate look (there's a shot with the black, silver, and walnut colored bags together).

start off by saying im 5"8', i went to compusa to look at bags and the salesman brings me over to the 17' laptop bags...tried one on and i felt like an idiot.
id feel embarassed as hell walking around campus with the bag they tried to sell me especially for $60.

I just ordered the Kensington Sport Saddle Backpack from Buy.com
Its supposedly a bit smaller than the contour, yet still fits the 9300. It sells for $51 with free shipping + i got a 10% off coupon. *and its in stock*

@BigNips: I'm also planning to buy Sport Saddle Backpack. Just a thought, Dell also sells those: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/P...tegory_id=5487
But I'm not sure about free shipping or whether they have them in stock. Anyway, enjoy yours!

Do you have a Crumpler base toucher? I am interested in buying one but some sites say it fits 15", others say 17". Can anyone confirm whether it fits an i9300?

I just picked up the Samsonite Sport Backpack. Wow, what a piece of art. This thing holds EVERYTHING, I put into it. The construction is incredibly solid and the padding on the shoulder straps and underside of the pack is amazing. My XPS2 fits in it perfectly with so much room for other things. As we speak, I have my lappy, power brick, wireless mouse, extra battery, three THICK textbooks, two notebooks, LAN cable, pens etc. in it. And it isn't any bigger than a normal-sized backpack. It's some weird trick of physics or something.

If you're looking for a backpack for the XPS2 or the 9300 (or any other 17-incher for that matter), you GOTTA PICK UP THIS BAG.

Case closed.

What model was the Samsonite? Was it the wide one or the cool-looking one? And how much did you pay? Link please!

Edit: So, can both these backpacks hold the 17" XPS Gen 2 AND at least two huge college textbooks together?

The first one, the Kensington one, looks smaller, which is better. Does it have two well-made shoulder straps? Which bag is better in everyone's opinion?

Regarding the 1st backpack (Kensington SaddleBag Sport Backpack) ... I asked the same question in this thread. Read it! Well, if you don't have time, someone answered it can hold the XPS2.

OK thanks, but is the Kensington sport backpack one strap or two? And can you fit textbooks in WITH the laptop as well?
Well, let me see ... OK, found the bookmarked link about the Kensington SaddleBag Sport Backpack. Klicken Sie hier bitte I think it's the same one as they sell it at dell.com in US. So yes, it does have two straps. But dunno why they use 'SaddleBag' word in its name tho. About the texbtooks, read the thread I posted a link to in my upper post. I think it should be big enough. I'm planning on buying it for myself too, so it better be big enough.

Cool. Look at how happy that German dude is; I'm definitely gettng it now!

Edit: I wasn't really joking. I just bought the Kensington Sport from Buy.com for $40.49 with the 10% off coupon shipped! Great deal!

Haha, yep. He kind of looks concerned at first. But on the last photo he looks like it totaly changed his life. Reminds me of those TV commercials.
About the backpack, do tell how it feels and looks, when you get it. Other than that, enjoy it!

hey guys, good thread so far, i currently have the Kensington Sport Saddle Backpack for my i6000D and its a GREAT backpack, alot of padding on the straps and fits my 6000 perfect, plenty of room but not too much where its banging around. one thing i do wish tho is that it had a separate zipper for the notebook, the way its setup is annoying sometimes when loading it in. you gotta kind of fold back the outter part to put the notebook in. let me know if u want any pictures of it. i ordered an XPS2 about 2 weeks ago and i got the XPS2 backpack with it, but i have been looking at booqbags.com and fell in love with the 2006 Boa.XL, so i just ordered that as well, hehe. im going to do a comparison review on the 3 bags for you guys to check out, whenever dell decides to finally send me my damn notebook, was supposed to ship on the 15th, its now the 18th and still in BUILD stage!

The Samsonite Sport has covered that problem. It has a two zippers for one large compartment. One gives you access to your textbooks etc. and the other is simply there to give you better access to load/unload your lappy. It's fantastic. I think someone asked for a link but already bought the Kensington. That bag looks very nice, although I think someone in this thread found that there were space issues in the bag. Here is a link to the samsonite bag:

This is the Canadian TigerDirect site but it's on the US site for $49.99 also. Probably some coupons somewhere as well.
