Lighter power adapter? 700m

Hello all,

I have a 700m that has just finished the testing phase so I should have it soon. One of the things that bugs me about the Dells is that huge brick power adapter thingo. I'm used to the minimal power cord for the Powerbook...

Is there a lighter/smaller/thinner option for the Dell? I had a look at their site and saw some "flat" power adapters but none specifically for the 700m. I want as light and small as possible.... my search on the forum turned up that the one that comes with it is approximately 1/2 a lb, and it also looks humongous - plus the ones I've seen for the larger dells are quite bulky.

Thank you. =)

the power supply is actually smaller than previous dell lappies. you can try and find something lighter, but do not know how much success you will have. you need something that is at least 65W ac/dc, but has output of no more than 19.5V and at least 3.34A. If you get something that outputs more than 19.5V you will fry your lappie. If you get something that has capacitance of less than 3.34A you will fry the power supply.

Um, why does it matter? You don't have to carry the laptop around with that plugged in.

Lighter Smaller Power Adapter

Kensington is selling a universal power adapter at some Costco stores starting this month.

It looks quite nice, includes a DC port for airline and auto use, multiple adapter tip for most every laptop and it weighs ounces, not pounds.

I'm trying to figure out if it'll work with my Asus A2H. The adapter tips are fine, it puts out 120W (so far so good) but the voltage is 19.1 while the Asus P/S puts out 19.6v (no load)

I'm concerned about undercharging/undervoltage.....if that's an issue

Other tips are provided for other voltages and polarities. It comes with a configuration guide ( but no A2H listed)

Thank you, fensterlips, I"m going to have a look for that.

It matters because I tend to carry this around for many hours with many other things in the bag. The power brick takes up a fair bit of space and it adds a bit of weight. Anything that I can to reduce both is important to me.

I got a modular battery so I wouldn't need to carry my power brick with me to school everyday. You might want to consider an extra battery instead.

That's the best solution. Dell's batteries have propriatary chips and you can run a Dell from an aftermarket adapter but it won't charge the battery.

Wow, I didn't know this. Seems like my Dell auto / air adapter for 700m and 6000 wasn't that bad after all.

I bought 3-2 adapter to it, so I should be able to put it into any wall.

I didn't either. Not surprised about them having such a chip though.
