Well, does the mouse run at it's best without the software? Like, does it run at the 1600dpi and stuff?

So, does anyone know how much funtionality comes from the drivers you have to install, and how much comes right when you plug it in?

The plain mouse (no driver updates) adds Expose functions with the drivers adding Spotlight functions with 10.4.2 updates. I happened into a Mighty Mouse for free due to a oversight on Apples part. http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=101874

ball is oldschool! Just like fashion, the ball will come back. No doubt about it!

So will 200mb harddrives, black and green monitors and domination of apple computers!

Well, what's the point of using a MightyMouse in XP if it only half works?

what do you mean by only half works?

i dont know how much dpi the mouse is, not every mouse is 1600 dpi. and if the mighty mouse is 1600 dpi it would be 1600 dpi in windows, but the mouse itself is not 1600 dpi. i think its slower like 400-800, so even in osx it would be 400-800, but i dont now ho much dpi it is diidnt look it up.

i think he meant there's no drivers for windows, so only half of the features on the mighty mouse works
post #32 of 44
not really. In windows it still functions fine, just no shortcut buttons, like Expose or dashboard. I love mine since its on OSX 10.4. It may not be 1600 DPI, but with the sensitivity turned up, this mouse is damn sensitive. I love mine!!!

she. not he. But yes, you are right. If it is meant for MAC and has no drivers for XP, then how much functionality do you lose?

Thank you! This is what I was wondering about.

mouse & osx86

My logitech MX518 has hardware dpi changes, click up and down, and it works with OSX tiger running on dell 9300. Maybe it'll work on a mac since that feature is driverless?

and original poster, have you tried running osx86 on your machine? It works great, better than just skinning the look, you can dual boot with XP to keep your windows functionality

the logitech MX500 is the best mouse out there if you don't game. If you do game however the razor diamondback is uncomparable. You get use to the high resolution quick and the smoothness of the mouse is un comparable. I love both.
How ever...the mighty mouse looks beautifull

So a good mouse will have functions built into the hardware, so no drivers need to be installed?

Mighty Mouse is alright, but not for XP. Drivers should be provided. This "as is" shipping of mice without drivers is like MS shipping XP without Service Pack implementations.

Half assed.

That's not what I meant. There are times when you can't/shouldn't have to load drivers everytime I move the mouse to a new computer. Not having to reload drivers when I move is really cool. More companies should load the functionality into the hardware.

I think what you're saying is absolutely fine, but can't Apple make drivers to add functionality to those extra buttons?

Loading wouldn't be a problem I don't think.
