post #41 of 56
I just did this for iTunes and it works GREAT!! Fantastic work man, really appreciate it.

changing the name of the .exe isn't really an option for everyone, is there no other way?
post #43 of 56
I tried using this to launch winamp and it tells me that dell media experience is not working. I renamed winamp.exe to dmx.exe and edited the reg file. any ideas? Im using xp pro btw.

XP Pro here as well--works fine for me. How about posting your reg entry here?

I will do that, Im at work now so I can't. I did notice that the reg file looks like this when you download it:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\DMX.exe]
@="C:\Program Files\winamp\\dmx.exe"
"Path"="C:\Program Files\winamp\\"

I saw others that had "\\" instead of 1 single "\". would that make a difference?

You can easily set any of the four cornors of the laptops mouse pad to run ANY program you want, you can also set to be a shortcut to folder etc. This can all be acessed in mouse options....

Btw my play button NEVER launched Dell media experience.
how do you do that?

when i go into the mouse setup it only shows the corded mouse that i installed?

You probably need to install the ALPS touchpad driver. Do you see it in the device mgr?

REGEDIT5

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\DMX.exe]
@="C:\\Program Files\\Winamp\\DMX.exe"
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Winamp\\"

was sucessfully imported to registry.
renamed winamp.exe to DMX. But it ain't launching. anyone know, what's up?
post #51 of 56
You reg file looks okay to me. You said that you "renamed winamp.exe to DMX." You did rename it "DMX.EXE" though.... right? And you are running Dell quickset?

The only other thing I can think of is to check your registry for your edit to make sure it is there.
post #52 of 56
no i didn't, odious. i just renamed it to DMX.

I did change it eventually but it's still not working...i have quickSet installed.

And in my registry, a folder called 'DMX' is there so i'm guessing that's fine...

BLAH.

EDIT: never mind; the folder is 'DFX'.
lol. no 'DMX' in CurrentVersion>App PAths.
Don't get it....

Renamed my Winamp file to 'DMX' (w/o.exe)

Renamed the first line of reg file :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\DMX.exe]
@="C:\\Program Files\\Winamp\\DMX.exe"
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Winamp\\"

It works! But jesus. I obsess way too easily. :/
post #54 of 56
Cool! Glad that you got it working.

I used this trick for the NVIDIA Pure Video Decoder nStant Media software - it's awsome - kinda like a MCE gui - great post!

I have an Inspiron 9200, followed the instructions, nothing happens when I hit the play button. It never did anything anyway before I followed the instructions.
